A brazen goon pummeled a female subway conductor and stole her train keys in a shocking attack in downtown Brooklyn on Sunday, police said.<\/p>\n

The on-duty MTA worker was making an announcement on a stalled southbound C train at the Hoyt\u2013Schermerhorn Streets station in downtown Brooklyn just before 3 p.m. when a man lurched forward and punched her in the face through the train cabin window, according to the NYPD.<\/p>\n

In the chaos, the thief managed to escape with the 31-year-old conductor\u2019s train keys.<\/p>\n

\"AThe brazen attack occurred at the Hoyt-Schermerhorn Streets station in downtown Brooklyn on Sunday, police said. Paul Martinka<\/p>\n

The conductor sustained swelling to her face and was treated at Brookdale Hospital.<\/p>\n

Police described the assailant as a heavyset male in his early 20s, last seen wearing a surgical mask and a black hoodie.<\/p>\n

He was also carrying several shopping bags, cops added.<\/p>\n

Last week, Gov. Kathy Hochul touted subway safety while announcing a staggering $77 million commitment towards\u00a0keeping the NYPD posted<\/a>\u00a0in stations citywide.<\/p>\n

Hochul claimed that subway crime had dropped to its lowest level in 16 years, with overall transit crime down 15% from 2019.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThese funds will support over 600 officers per day and keep riders safe and surge patrols where they are most needed at the discretion of our police commissioner to help cover overtime for those who are doing above and beyond,\u201d she said. \u201cTo make sure that people can ride the subways without fear.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, since then, police have reported at least four transit slashings.<\/p>\n

On Friday, a 23-year-old man was\u00a0stabbed in the back by a stranger<\/a>\u00a0at the\u00a0No. 1 platform at 96th and Broadway.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A day later, another maniac\u00a0stabbed a 40-year-old man<\/a>\u00a0four times \u2014 once in the leg and thrice in the ribs \u2014 on the R train.\u00a0<\/p>\n
