Pile in the car for a leisurely holiday drive or take a hot cocoa-fueled stroll while you ooh and ah at Houston\u2019s most popular Christmas light displays\u2014in residential neighborhoods and at city landmarks and destinations alike.<\/strong><\/p>\n Every year, Houston neighborhoods light up like a Christmas tree (literally), with homes, streets, and yards decked in the season\u2019s finest adornments.<\/p>\n In most cases, checking out some of Houston\u2019s best neighborhood Christmas light displays won\u2019t cost you anything more than the gas it takes to get there. Just be sure you respect the neighborhoods and the residents who so kindly showcase their homes and put them in their best light.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n 2025 Christmas Lights in Houston Neighborhoods<\/strong><\/p>\n City Lights in Downtown Houston<\/a> | Discovery Green, Avenida Houston, Daikin Park, Post Houston, GreenStreet & More<\/strong><\/p>\n Downtown Houston comes alive with holiday lights, with South Pole and North Pole light installations and holiday activities<\/a>. New for 2025 is Houston Astros Light Up the Park<\/a> at Daikin Park with loads of H-Town and baseball-centric displays, photos opps, and more. Other Downtown highlights include the annual, towering Holiday Tree at City Hall<\/a>, Winter Wonderland on top of Post Houston by the Theater District, the over-the-top holiday bar experience, Holidaze at GreenStreet<\/a>, the magic of the City Lights at Avenida de las Americas<\/a>, Discovery Green<\/a>\u2018s H-Town Holiday Lights<\/a> and Ice skating experience<\/a> (make sure you book a spot online in advance<\/a> if you\u2019re planning to skate, though), at Texas Winter Lights<\/a> around the climate-controlled Texas-shaped lazy river on the roof of the Marriott Marquis Houston Downtown.<\/p>\n River Oaks\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n For one of the most extravagant displays of holiday lights in the city, you\u2019ll want to check the grand, decked-out homes and towering oak trees around one of Houston\u2019s most prominent neighborhoods, River Oaks<\/a>. Enter from Kirby\u2014either from Shepherd or Westheimer\u2014and begin winding your way through the hood as you uncover enclave after enclave of bright holiday lights and tradition. You can also park your car near the River Oaks Country Club to traverse the hood\u2019s most popular streets by foot. Expect very slow traffic.<\/p>\n Woodland Heights & Greater Heights<\/strong><\/p>\n With its annual\u00a0Lights in the Heights\u00a0competition and block party on the second Saturday of December,<\/a> this friendly neighborhood keeps up all the charm and holiday spirit. Throughout the month of December, you\u2019ll find shimmering displays\u2014from the fun and funky to the quaint and beautiful. And all of it is easy to see by foot, bike or with a quick drive through the hood. Check out the area bordered by I-10, Heights Boulevard and 19th Street, and I-45.<\/p>\n Prestonwood<\/strong> Forest<\/strong><\/a> near Willowbrook <\/strong><\/p>\n Nestled in Northwest Houston, this neighborhood subdivision <\/a>has been a holiday destination since the \u201870s. During its annual Nite of Lites<\/a> (which runs through Wednesday, December 31, 2025 this year), hundreds of homes light up, all competing in a holiday-spirited competition with categories like Best House, Best Door, Best Mailbox, Best Block, and the People\u2019s Choice Award. The map<\/a> includes the area around Prestonwood Forest from Cypresswood to 249, and from Ravenhurst and Schroeder to Charlynne Oaks to Hargrave.<\/p>\n The Woodlands<\/strong><\/p>\n You\u2019ll find that most neighborhoods in The Woodlands<\/a> feature homes, if not whole streets, that offer extravagant Christmas lights. In the past, the Panther Creek<\/a> and Alden Bridge<\/a> neighborhoods have been known for setting the bar high, several of the homes featuring over-the-top displays, some of which are choreographed to music.\u00a0In addition, a stroll along the tree-lit Woodlands Waterway<\/a> is a holiday tradition worth starting, as is checking out Market Street<\/a>, with its soaring Christmas tree and twinkling lights.<\/p>\n Houston\u2019s Shopping Districts | Uptown, River Oaks District & Highland Village<\/strong><\/p>\n Running along Post Oak and Westheimer, these merry and bright shopping districts are well worth a drive-by, or a stop-in if you want to hit all of those holiday sales. Drive down Post Oak and south towards the Galleria<\/a>, taking in the white lights on the Christmas trees lining Uptown\u2019s main holiday thoroughfare. When you arrive at Westheimer, take a left and cross under the Loop to head towards the dazzling River Oaks District<\/a> and Highland Village<\/a>. The trees along River Oaks Shopping Center<\/a> along West Gray also make for a pleasing drive-by when you\u2019re on your holiday errands.<\/p>\n Garden Oaks\/Oak Forest<\/strong><\/p>\n In Garden Oaks\/Oak Forest, or Central Northwest Houston<\/a>, the Shepherd Park Plaza neighborhood has rocked over-the-top lights and decked-out holiday displays since the late 1960s. The nearby Candlelight Park gets in on the action, too; both residential areas bringing entire streets together to create a magical experience complete with Santas, inflatables, fun themes, and shimmering lights.<\/p>\n Pecan Grove<\/strong><\/p>\n This festive Richmond neighborhood<\/a> draws locals in with its show-stopping Christmas lights. Plantation Drive is the main strip, with some streets being more decorated than others.
