{"id":466616,"date":"2025-12-23T12:50:22","date_gmt":"2025-12-23T12:50:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/466616\/"},"modified":"2025-12-23T12:50:22","modified_gmt":"2025-12-23T12:50:22","slug":"carragher-apologises-to-chelsea-as-he-names-team-of-the-season-so-far","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/466616\/","title":{"rendered":"Carragher apologises to Chelsea as he names team of the season so far"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jamie Carragher has picked his Premier League team of the season so far with Chelsea getting an apology from the Liverpool legend.<\/p>\n<p>Arsenal still lead <a href=\"https:\/\/www.football365.com\/premier-league\/table\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>the Premier League<\/strong><\/a> at Christmas, despite some recent underwhelming performances, with Manchester City and Aston Villa their closest challengers for the title.<\/p>\n<p>Newly-promoted Sunderland deserve lots of praise for their start to the new season as Regis Le Bris has guided them to sixth place in the Premier League.<\/p>\n<p>And Carragher faced a lot of tough decisions when selecting his Premier League team of the season, none more so than his defensive midfield picks.<\/p>\n<p>The Liverpool legend apologised to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.football365.com\/chelsea\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Chelsea<\/strong><\/a> supporters for leaving out Moises Caicedo, who has been outstanding this season, with Arsenal\u2019s Declan Rice and Sunderland\u2019s Granit Xhaka chosen ahead of the Ecuador international.<\/p>\n<p>Carragher said on Sky Sports: \u201cI apologise to Chelsea fans. Declan Rice\u00a0just has the edge on Caicedo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.football365.com\/news\/liverpool-tottenham-and-newcastle-among-top-10-storylines-we-werent-expecting-in-2025\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Liverpool, Tottenham and Newcastle among top 10 storylines we weren\u2019t expecting in 2025<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>He explained to Chelsea fans that if he hadn\u2019t selected Manchester United\u2019s Bruno Fernandes then Caicedo would have been certain to make his side.<\/p>\n<p>Carragher explained: \u201c[Xhaka] has had the biggest impact of any signing. He\u2019s so important.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had to put Fernandes in. He\u2019s still created the most chances.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Carragher picked another Sunderland star,\u00a0Robin Roefs, as the goalkeeper of the season so far with the young Dutchman preventing more goals than anyone else in the league.<\/p>\n<p>On Roefs, Carragher added: \u201cI\u2019ve been really impressed with him.
