It\u2019s a <a href=\"https:\/\/sandiegobeer.news\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>San Diego Beer News<\/strong><\/a> tradition to reveal the 25 news stories that garnered the most engagement among our readership (not including standard fare about events and beer competitions results or features such as our travel guides, Beer of the Week pieces and brewery-staff spotlights). But there was so much going on in the local brewing community over the past 12 months, that we decided to take things further, presenting the top 50 articles. The following are numbers 31 through 40.<\/p>\n<p><strong>40. <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/sdbn250122b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Two new southerly beer bastions<\/strong><\/a><br \/>January 22, 2025<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"651\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/tinygiant_00.png\" alt=\"Tiny Giant Taproom in Barrio Logan\" class=\"wp-image-20122\"  \/>Photo: Tiny Giant <\/p>\n<p>While a steady stream of new breweries have opened in recent years, that has not been the case for bars focused on what those operations produce. Many have lamented the lessening number of craft-beer bars in San Diego County, which made it so significant for two to launch at the start of the year \u2013 Barrio Logan\u2019s <strong>Tiny Giant Taproom<\/strong> and <strong>Lucky\u2019s Irish Beer Garden<\/strong> in Bonita \u2013 both headed by beer enthusiasts with a fervent commitment to bringing high-quality ales and lagers to neighborhoods with low exposure to such offerings.<\/p>\n<p><strong>39. <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/sdbn251028\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Ushering in Quantum Brewing v3.0<\/strong><\/a><br \/>November 11, 2025<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"654\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/quantum_00-1024x654.png\" alt=\"Quantum Brewing\" class=\"wp-image-28999\"  \/>Photo: Quantum Brewing<\/p>\n<p>In 2023, the owner of <strong>Quantum Brewing <\/strong>put his Kearny Mesa business up for sale. Two years later, he\u2019s still there, but in a completely different capacity, working as a part-time bartender while providing fermentation and management consultation to the business\u2019 third and current owner, <strong>Taylor Scheid<\/strong>. A former homebrewer and U.S. Navy rescue diver, Scheid is being careful to retain the beers and other aspects of the business that longtime fans have enjoyed while also infusing a bit of himself into the 11-year-old nanobrewery.<\/p>\n<p><strong>38. <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/sdbn250506\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Local product finds his way home<\/strong><\/a><br \/>May 6, 2025<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"660\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/anderson_01-1024x660.png\" alt=\"Caitlyn &amp; Dan Anderson\" class=\"wp-image-23572\"  \/>Photo: Dan Anderson<\/p>\n<p>In 2020, <strong>Dan Anderson<\/strong>, a local brewer who\u2019d cut his teeth working under respected brewers at <strong>Rock Bottom<\/strong>, <strong>Gordon Biersch<\/strong> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eatpuesto.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Puesto Cervecer\u00eda<\/strong><\/a>, decided to take his talents to Austin, Texas, where he went on to work as a brewer and process quality manager at <strong>Zilker Brewing<\/strong> and <strong>Pinthouse Brewing<\/strong>, respectively. After gaining a wealth of experience at both companies, Anderson returned this spring to accept the role of head brewer for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.karlstrauss.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Karl Strauss Brewing<\/strong><\/a>, San Diego County\u2019s longest-operating post-Prohibition beer company.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>37. <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/sdbn250224c\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>The Lost Abbey debuts taproom with Duck Duck en route<\/strong><\/a><br \/>February 24, 2025<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"568\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/lostabbey_02.png\" alt=\"The Lost Abbey tasting room in Vista\" class=\"wp-image-21346\"  \/>Photo: The Lost Abbey<\/p>\n<p>In 2024, <strong>The Lost Abbey<\/strong> made a cross-Vista move from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motherearthbrewco.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Mother Earth Brew Co.<\/strong><\/a>, where it had temporarily shared a brewery and taproom with its landlords, to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eppigbrewing.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Eppig Brewing<\/strong><\/a>\u2018s former HQ. That facility was inherited by the parent company of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.masonaleworks.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Mason Ale Works<\/strong><\/a> after that entity took over management of the Eppig brand. As part of the new tenancy, The Lost Abbey was able to debut an independent tasting room in the production area just ahead of the release of the company\u2019s award-winning barrel-aged sour ale, Duck Duck Gooze.<\/p>\n<p><strong>36. <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/sdbn250415c\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Northern Pine Brewing out, but not over<\/strong><\/a><br \/>April 15, 2025<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/northernpine_01.png\" alt=\"Northern Pine Brewing\" class=\"wp-image-22740\"  \/>Photo: Northern Pine Brewing<\/p>\n<p>Launched in Oceanside in 2017, <strong>Northern Pine Brewing<\/strong> earned a fast following which allowed it to expand early on as one of three local beverage tenants at the shared <strong>Brewer\u2019s Deck <\/strong>rooftop bar atop Del Mar Highlands\u2019 <strong>SkyDeck<\/strong> collective. Its beers sold well at both venues, but ultimately, problems with culinary operations at their flagship location (a restaurant partner bailed in 2023 and the brewery\u2019s attempt to manage the on-site kitchen proved unsuccessful) led to a notice to vacate from the company\u2019s landlord. Northern Pine closed in April, but the owners hope to be back in business at some point.<\/p>\n<p><strong>35. <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/sdbn251103\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Get a peek into Lyons Peak Brewing<\/strong><\/a><br \/>November 2, 2025<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"558\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/lyonspeak_00-1024x558.png\" alt=\"Chad Stevens\" class=\"wp-image-29247\"  \/>Photo: Matt Ellenbogen<\/p>\n<p>Well known among recreational and professional brewers, <strong>Chad Stevens<\/strong> has spent the last half-decade tending to hundreds of trees he had shipped over from Europe and planted at his estate in Jamul. Those trees bear a rare variety of cherries, which flavor spontaneously fermented lambic-style beer (kriek) that he produces on-site under his <strong>Lyons Peak Brewing <\/strong>label. Stevens provided his story and that of the Schaerbeek cherry prior to the fruits of his labor making their debut at <strong>O\u2019Brien\u2019s Pub<\/strong> at a kickoff event for <strong>San Diego Beer Week<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>34. <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/sdbn250228b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>No more namesake beer for Oceanside<\/strong><\/a><br \/>February 28, 2025<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"845\" height=\"506\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/obc_00.png\" alt=\"Oceanside Brewing\" class=\"wp-image-21500\"  \/>Photo: Oceanside Brewing<\/p>\n<p>Oceanside has long been home to a multitude of breweries, enough that for a decade, two of those ale-and-lager operations bore the North County municipality\u2019s name. But last December, 16-year-old <strong>Oceanside Ale Works<\/strong> closed its doors. That loss was followed by the owner of <strong>Oceanside Brewing<\/strong>\u2019s decision to shutter his communal hub for art, music and beer (perhaps in that order) after 10 years. (Before you email us, yes, South O Brewing is still around and, yes, they\u2019re name is technically eponymous with Oceanside.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>33. <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/sdbn250521\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>New life for Little Miss\u2019 northernmost taproom<\/strong><\/a><br \/>May 23, 2025<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"704\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/escondido_00-1024x704.png\" alt=\"Escondido Social Taproom\" class=\"wp-image-23950\"  \/>Photo: Escondido Social Tap Room<\/p>\n<p>When <strong>Little Miss Brewing<\/strong> pulled the plug after nine years in the beer biz, it not only left behind its Logan Heights brewery, but also nine satellite tasting rooms. It wasn\u2019t long before the company\u2019s vacated Escondido digs were taken over by a trio of individuals who had previously worked there (including a former co-owner of <strong>Rip Current Brewing <\/strong>and member of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sdbeer.com\/about.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>San Diego Brewers Guild<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s Board of Directors). Together they have spent the past seven months converting the space into a craft-beer haven called <strong>The Escondido Social Taproom<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>32. <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/sdbn250722\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Brewers Guild director opening his own brewery<\/strong><\/a><br \/>July 22, 2025<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"681\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/goodpressure_logo-1024x681.png\" alt=\"Good Pressure Brewing\" class=\"wp-image-25889\"  \/>Image: Good Pressure Brewing<\/p>\n<p>Few are as in tune with the local brewing industry and have peeked behind the curtains of as many of the county\u2019s breweries as <strong>Erik Fowler<\/strong>. The Executive Director of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sdbeer.com\/about.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>San Diego Brewers Guild<\/strong><\/a> indicated he would use the insights and knowledge he\u2019d gained representing the region\u2019s beermakers when announcing he and his wife were working to start their own craft-beer concern. Going by the name <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodpressurebrewing.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Good Pressure Brewing<\/strong><\/a>, their passion project would take the place of <strong>Poochie\u2019s Hooch Urban Cidery<\/strong> in Allied Gardens, giving that community its first-ever brewery.<\/p>\n<p><strong>31. <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/sdbn250113\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>One brewery\u2019s loss is another\u2019s gain<\/strong><\/a><br \/>January 13, 2025<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"641\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/fjalstad_00.png\" alt=\"The Original 40 Brewing Head Brewer Kyle Fjalstad\" class=\"wp-image-19774\"  \/>Photo: The Original 40 Brewing<\/p>\n<p>Prior to being acquired by Maui-based <strong>Craft \u2018Ohana <\/strong>in 2022, <strong>Modern Times Beer<\/strong> did not submit its beers into brewing competitions, but once it started doing so, the company began running the table with its barrel-aged stouts. When the company moved out of its Point Loma production facility and switched to contract-brewing, numerous employees were laid off, including the individual who\u2019d managed the barrel-aged beer program, <strong>Kyle Fjalstad<\/strong>.
