OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Luke Lindenmeyer\u2019s life hasn\u2019t gone exactly to plan.<\/p>\n
\u201cI thought I\u2019d be playing basketball, honestly,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
But he wouldn\u2019t want it any other way.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s just incredible because I didn\u2019t see myself being here at all. And now that I\u2019m here I don\u2019t know what else I\u2019d be doing, where else I\u2019d be,\u201d said Lindenmeyer, junior tight end.<\/p>\n
Luke\u2019s gone from a walk-on from La Vista and a proud Papio program to Nebraska\u2019s starting tight end.<\/p>\n
\u201cEverything was, like, new to me,\u201d Lindenmeyer said.<\/p>\n
Coaches recognize his development<\/p>\n
\u201cHe knows he\u2019s the guy. Now he knows he\u2019s No. 1 and he\u2019s playing like it. He has the ability to get open, he has the ability to catch it, he has the ability to get upfield and get us first downs,\u201d said Dana Holgorsen, offensive coordinator.<\/p>\n
Lindenmeyer earned an All-Big Ten honorable mention selection.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s a good football player, man. I mean, I sat up here in front of you guys last year in November and said I thought he was a good football player,\u201d Holgorsen said.<\/p>\n
But it\u2019s been a winding journey.<\/p>\n
\u201cBeing part of a military family, I got pretty good at adapting to new places. Even when coach Frost was fired and we had a bunch of position coaching changes and a bunch of offensive changes, I was able to adapt right away. I think that\u2019s what\u2019s been able to help me separate,\u201d Lindenmeyer said.<\/p>\n
Best season yet<\/p>\n
Separate by having his best season with over 300 receiving yards and two touchdowns.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery rep I have in a practice and in a game, I\u2019m getting better. Whether it be footwork or running after the catch, there\u2019s always something that you can improve on and you\u2019re always chasing that perfection \u2014 knowing I\u2019ll never reach it, but just chasing that is making me so much better,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
And as his senior season nears, one thing stands out about being a Husker.<\/p>\n
\u201cJust how much it means to all Nebraskans, especially the kids, and just how much of a role model I can be,\u201d Lindenmeyer said.<\/p>\n
