{"id":468039,"date":"2025-12-24T03:23:13","date_gmt":"2025-12-24T03:23:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/468039\/"},"modified":"2025-12-24T03:23:13","modified_gmt":"2025-12-24T03:23:13","slug":"the-no-1-reason-americans-are-stressed-about-money-going-into-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/468039\/","title":{"rendered":"The No. 1 Reason Americans Are Stressed About Money Going Into 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>    <img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP\/\/\/ywAAAAAAQABAAACAUwAOw==\" alt=\"SimpleImages \/ Getty Images The New Year is just around the corner, and many Americans fear their financial situation will deteriorate.\" loading=\"eager\" height=\"640\" width=\"960\" class=\"yf-lglytj loader\"\/> <\/p>\n<p>SimpleImages \/ Getty Images<\/p>\n<p> The New Year is just around the corner, and many Americans fear their financial situation will deteriorate.         <\/p>\n<ul class=\"yf-h8k6hx\">\n<li class=\"yf-h8k6hx\">\n<p class=\"yf-7hmkaz\">Almost half of Americans report having more financial stress now than they did at the start of 2025.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"yf-h8k6hx\">\n<p class=\"yf-7hmkaz\">Rising everyday costs, low income, and job insecurity are the top reasons cited.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"yf-h8k6hx\">\n<p class=\"yf-7hmkaz\">Consumer sentiment has fallen sharply over the past year, as unemployment has risen and inflation remains above the Fed&#8217;s target of 2%.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"yf-7hmkaz\">2025 was a year of change for the U.S. economy\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/where-trump-s-tariffs-stand-heading-into-2026-11855038\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:tariffs were imposed on goods;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">tariffs were imposed on goods<\/a> imported from around the world, the unemployment rate ticked upward, and <a href=\"http:\/\/investopedia.com\/can-the-s-and-p-500-get-to-8000-these-experts-say-yes-but-it-ll-take-big-rate-cuts-11872292\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:AI companies bolstered stock market performance;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">AI companies bolstered stock market performance<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-7hmkaz\">For Americans, however, some of these changes were a source of stress.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-7hmkaz\">A new survey by Allianz, a life insurance company, finds that 48% of Americans report being more stressed now than they were at the beginning of the year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-7hmkaz\">As you head into the New Year, consider doing a review of your finances this year: how much money did you earn and spend? If you spent more than you earned, find ways to cut costs and consider generating additional income, such as through a side hustle. If you&#8217;re worried about losing your job, try <a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/personal-finance\/how-to-build-emergency-fund\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:building up your emergency fund;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">building up your emergency fund<\/a> with three to six months&#8217; worth of expenses.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-7hmkaz\">Among that group of Americans, some of the top reasons for being stressed about finances were the cost of everyday expenses (54%), low income (46%), high debt (35%), and a lack of job security (33%).<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-7hmkaz\">The most recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/consumers-are-still-sour-but-hope-is-rising-on-inflation-11862971\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Consumer Sentiment Survey from the University of Michigan;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Consumer Sentiment Survey from the University of Michigan<\/a> also indicates that Americans are feeling worse about the economy now than they did a year ago.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-7hmkaz\">In December 2025, the headline index was 52.9, down more than 28% from a year earlier.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-7hmkaz\">&#8220;Despite some signs of improvement to close out the year, sentiment remains nearly 30% below December 2024, as pocketbook issues continue to dominate consumer views of the economy,&#8221; said Joanne Hsu, Surveys of Consumers Director, in the release.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-7hmkaz\">As of November 2025, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/january-federal-reserve-rate-cut-still-on-the-table-after-jobs-report-11870160\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:the unemployment rate;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">the unemployment rate<\/a> was 4.6%, the highest since the end of the COVID-19 pandemic in September 2021.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-7hmkaz\">And while inflation has eased since 2021, it still remains stubbornly high, above the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/ask\/answers\/122214\/how-does-monetary-policy-influence-inflation.asp\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Federal Reserve&#039;s 2% goal;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Federal Reserve&#8217;s 2% goal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-7hmkaz\">The November inflation report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics indicated that inflation had slowed to 2.7%, down from 3% in September.
