After adding Luke Kornet in free agency behind Victor Wembanyama, the San Antonio Spurs are optimistic that they have found their backup for both the present and future.<\/p>\n

When Wembanyama sits, the Spurs barely look like an NBA team, and adding a serviceable center for the next four years should help alleviate that.<\/p>\n

However, unless they re-sign Charles Bassey or Bismack Biyombo, the Spurs will need to add a third-string center for both injury insurance and, possibly, to play a veteran role.<\/p>\n

Jeremy Sochan can play brief minutes as a small-ball center, although a more traditional big man would work wonders. After being traded to the Utah Jazz from the Miami Heat, Kevin Love is expected to have his remaining contract bought out, and the Spurs could emerge as suitors.<\/p>\n

At 36 years old, Love is well past his prime, although last season with the Heat, he posted 5.3 points and 4.1 rebounds while spacing the floor. Granted, he has not played in 65 games since 2021-22, but he would be more of a “culture” pickup than someone who would play massive minutes.<\/p>\n

Of course, if the Jazz cut him, he would be expected to sign with either the Heat, Cavaliers, or Timberwolves (teams he has played for in the past) or link up with LeBron James once again, this time on the Los Angeles Lakers.<\/p>\n

While Love to the Spurs might be a bit far-fetched, the five-time All-Star still has immense value and could spend his final year or two chasing his second ring in Texas.<\/p>\n
