In our mind, we hear the voice of \u201cDandy\u201d Don Meredith singing that it\u2019s time to turn out the lights, the party\u2019s over <\/a>on this Cowboys season.<\/p>\n

Not that it was much of a party. Heck, the last few decades have delivered us football that\u2019s been as predictable as watching leaves drop from the trees. You know it\u2019s going to happen as fall turns to winter, but riveting it isn\u2019t.<\/p>\n

Whatever \u201cit\u201d is, our Dallas Cowboys don\u2019t have it. Year after year, it seems like the same story. Pres-season hype. Early season wake-up. Mid-season surprise. False hope. Late season collapse.<\/p>\n

Punctuating it all are the statements of Jerry Jones, the owner and general manager whose promises of greatness are less believable with each passing season.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a shame since there is so much excellence, starting with quarterback Dak Prescott<\/a>, who deserves more than a career of frustration but increasingly appears like he will get just that.<\/p>\n

We also wanted more for our new head coach Brian Schottenheimer, <\/a>who seems like a decent, hard-working, straight-talking guy who would be nice to have around for a while.<\/p>\n

If only there had been some way the Cowboys could have had a decent defense to support the offense this season, how different things might have been. If only the team had somehow had one of the best defensive players in the game lined up, what might have been?<\/p>\n

But we\u2019re in Dallas, and that\u2019s not how football go, if we can twist a phrase from former Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington. <\/p>\n

In Dallas, football goes Jerry\u2019s way. And Jerry\u2019s way is to put on the same show again and again.<\/p>\n
