Bowen Yang<\/b> has taken his final curtain call<\/a> on Saturday Night Live\u00a0\u2014 against the wishes of show creator Lorne Michaels<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201ci\u2019m grateful for every minute of my time there,\u201d the comedian, 35, wrote in a lengthy message on Instagram<\/a> on Sunday, December 21 \u2014 the day after his final show, hosted by close pal Ariana Grande<\/strong> and musical guest Cher<\/strong> \u2014 before thanking the entire cast and crew, including Michaels.<\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone tried to get Bowen to stay, from Lorne down. But he just made up his mind, he was over it,\u201d an insider told Page Six<\/a> in a story published on Tuesday, December 23. \u201cHe was not happy, you could tell.\u201d<\/p>\n

Michaels threw \u201ca ton of money\u201d at the comedian at the beginning of Season 51 to get him to stay, added the outlet, but the Wicked actor still decided to leave mid-season.<\/p>\n

Yang \u2014 who joined the sketch comedy show as a writer in 2018, became a featured player in 2019 and was promoted to regular cast member in 2021 \u2014 was \u201covercommitted\u201d with work outside of SNL, another source told Page Six.<\/p>\n

He co-hosts the hit podcast \u201cLas Culturistas\u201d<\/a>\u00a0with Matt Rogers<\/strong><\/a> and has a slate of TV and film projects lined up.<\/p>\n

Page Six also reported that Yang was \u201cvery upset\u201d that cast mate Heidi Gardner<\/strong> was cut from the show in August, after eight seasons.<\/p>\n

Her exit was part of a cast shakcup<\/a> that saw the departures of\u00a0\u00a0Devon Walker<\/strong>, Emil Wakim<\/strong> and Michael Longfellow<\/strong>. Ego Nwodim<\/strong> also left before the season premiere.<\/p>\n
