{"id":469311,"date":"2025-12-24T18:45:14","date_gmt":"2025-12-24T18:45:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/469311\/"},"modified":"2025-12-24T18:45:14","modified_gmt":"2025-12-24T18:45:14","slug":"openai-boss-sam-altman-predicts-next-big-ai-breakthrough","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/469311\/","title":{"rendered":"OpenAI boss Sam Altman predicts next big AI breakthrough"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">OpenAI boss Sam Altman has predicted that the next big breakthrough towards achieving <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/tech\/google-gemini-vs-chatgpt-cloudflare-ai-b2881240.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:superhuman artificial intelligence;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">superhuman artificial intelligence<\/a> will occur when AI systems gain \u201cinfinite, perfect memory\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Recent advances from the ChatGPT creator, as well as those of its rivals working on large language models (LLMs), have focussed on improving AI\u2019s reasoning abilities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">But speaking on the Big Technology Podcast, the Mr Altman said the development he was most looking forward to was when AI can remember \u201cevery detail of your entire life\u201d, and that his company was working towards reaching this point in 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cEven if you have the world\u2019s best personal assistant&#8230; they can\u2019t remember every word you\u2019ve ever said in your life,\u201d Mr Altman said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cThey can\u2019t have read every document you\u2019ve ever written. They can\u2019t be looking at all your work every day and remembering every little detail. They can\u2019t be a participant in your life to that degree. And no human has infinite, perfect memory.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cAnd AI is definitely gonna be able to do that. We actually talk a lot about this\u2014right now, memory is still very crude, very early.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">His comments come just weeks after he reportedly declared a \u201ccode red\u201d situation at his company following the launch of Google\u2019s latest Gemini model.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Google described Gemini 3 as a \u201cnew era of intelligence\u201d when it released the updated AI app in November, with the model achieving record scores across numerous industry benchmark tests.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Mr Altman played down the urgency of the threat posed by Gemini 3, claiming that it was not unusual for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/openai\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:OpenAI;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">OpenAI<\/a> to respond decisively to new competition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cI think that it\u2019s good to be paranoid and act quickly when a potential competitive threat emerges,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cThe same thing happened to us in the past, it happened earlier this year with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/tech\/tech-apple-tesla-byd-musk-b2721499.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:DeepSeek;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">DeepSeek<\/a>&#8230; Gemini 3 has not \u2013 or at least has not so far \u2013 had the impact we were worried it might, but it did identify some weaknesses in our product offering and strategy and we\u2019re addressing those very quickly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">In order to win <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/tech\/google-gemini-vs-chatgpt-cloudflare-ai-b2881240.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:the AI race;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">the AI race<\/a>, the OpenAI boss said the strategy is to \u201cmake the best models, build the best product around them, and have enough infrastructure to serve it at scale.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">ChatGPT currently has around 800 million users, according to OpenAI, representing roughly 71 per cent of the AI app market share.
