Two FedEx big rigs collided, ripping open a trailer and dumping packages across the northbound 5 Freeway in Pacoima, forcing a full shutdown and wrecking the San Fernando Valley commute early Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The crash was reported around 3:45 a.m., just south of the 118 Freeway, where one trailer split open and another cab spun out, blocking the middle lanes as boxes littered the rain-soaked roadway, KTLA reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Authorities have not said what caused the collision. But it happened as heavy rain began pounding Los Angeles <\/a>County, creating slick, dangerous conditions in the dark.<\/p>\n

The wreck triggered a full SigAlert, closing all northbound lanes, sending traffic grinding to a halt on the 5, 118 and nearby 405 Freeways.<\/p>\n

Drivers may not be in the clear yet. The National Weather Service is forecasting 4 to 7 inches of rain across Valley areas through Friday.<\/p>\n
