As of today, NYC has recorded 1,000 FEWER shooting victims than in 2021. (Theodore Parisienne \/ New York Daily News)<\/p>\n<p>Shootings doubled in 2020 compared with the prior year and killings rose by almost 50%, with those numbers creeping higher still the following year \u2014 including 1,828 shooting victims through Dec. 19, 2021, and 464 homicides.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s lows are more in line with the city\u2019s prepandemic crime statistics.
