REUTERS<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/12\/01\/world-news\/conservatives-ahead-of-governing-party-in-honduras-presidential-vote-early-results-show\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Trump publicly backed Asfura<\/a> last month ahead of the Nov. 30 election, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/12\/02\/world-news\/trump-warns-honduras-of-hell-to-pay-if-election-count-changes-presses-officials-to-finish-tally\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">warning<\/a> that if he didn\u2019t win, \u201cthe United States will not be throwing good money after bad, because a wrong Leader can only bring catastrophic results.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTito will be a Great President, and the United States will work closely with him in order to ensure the success, with all of its potential, of Honduras!\u201d the president wrote in\u00a0 Nov. 28 Truth Social post, adding, \u201cVOTE FOR TITO ASFURA FOR PRESIDENT\u201d and \u201cMAKE HONDURAS GREAT AGAIN!\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Trump endorsed Asfura\u2019s candidacy last month ahead of the election in Honduras. REUTERS<\/p>\n<p>On behalf of the United States, Secretary of State Marco Rubio congratulated Asfura on his \u201cclear electoral victory\u201d and called on \u201call parties to respect the confirmed results.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe look forward to working with his incoming administration to advance our bilateral and regional security cooperation, end illegal immigration to the United States, and strengthen the economic ties between our two countries,\u201d Rubio said in a statement.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe United States urges all parties to respect the confirmed results so that Honduran authorities may swiftly ensure a peaceful transition of authority to President-Elect Nasry Asfura,\u201d the top US diplomat added.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Asfura supporters celebrated the conservative candidate\u2019s victory in Honduras\u2019 presidential election Wednesday.
