BLACK MOUNTAIN, NC \u2014 Warm temperatures across western North Carolina prompted many people to spend their Christmas Eve out on the golf course.<\/p>\n

Golfers like Don Segal said the conditions made it impossible to stay away.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can\u2019t pass a day like this up, and it\u2019s great that the course is open and it\u2019s busy and it\u2019s just great to be out here,\u201d Segal said.<\/p>\n

BLACK MOUNTAIN GOLF COURSE REOPENS, AWAITS FEMA FUNDS FOR FULL RESTORATION<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

At the Black Mountain Golf Course, Segal is one of many golfers who are returning after months of closures caused by storm damage during Helene.<\/p>\n

Course officials<\/a> say Helene damaged cart paths, bridges, and the irrigation system. While repairs are ongoing, the back nine holes have reopened, allowing players to return.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had to go down the mountain to play golf for quite a season and play some nice courses, but there\u2019s no place like your home course,\u201d said golfer Mike Stewart.<\/p>\n

Beyond the game itself, golfers said the weather was the highlight of the day.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s 65, it\u2019s Christmas Eve, I\u2019m with my buddies, this is the best day ever,\u201d said golfer Brandon Hawkins.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Players at the Springdale course in Canton also took advantage of the warm holiday weather.<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously, we were hoping for a white Christmas, but if we can\u2019t have a white Christmas, then we\u2019ll go out golfing,\u201d said golfer Andrew Beachum.<\/p>\n

Back in Black Mountain, players are already looking ahead to the full reopening of the course.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re really excited, we\u2019d come in every time we play and go \u2018how long, how long\u2019 and so now they\u2019re at least saying hopefully by spring, so there\u2019s a lot of spring hope in us for it opening back up,\u201d Stewart said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
