That\u2019s now causing backlash from all over the racing world with many calling it unacceptable and dangerous.<\/p>\n<p>Advertisement<\/p>\n<p>Cody Ware\u2019s crash was on the last lap of the Chicago Street Race. A blown brake rotor left him unable to slow down into Turn 6 and he hit the barrier hard. Hard enough that drivers, analysts and fans all thought for sure a yellow would come. His window net was still up so he was still inside and potentially injured. Yet the race continued at full speed as he sat motionless in the runoff.<br \/>\u201cIt took NASCAR 35 seconds to throw a caution,\u201d wrote reporter Seth Eggert. \u201cUnreal. Unacceptable.\u201d<br \/>Joseph Srigley, editor-in-chief at TobyChristie.com, was just as stunned: \u201cThat\u2019s a brutal impact\u2026 I can\u2019t believe that wasn\u2019t an immediate caution.\u201dBut the delay has raised questions about safety protocols, and what could have happened if Ware couldn\u2019t have walked away.<\/p>\n<p>Advertisement<\/p>\n<p>Thankfully, Ware was able to walk away from the crash without serious injury. The <a href=\"https:\/\/sportsnaut.com\/tag\/rick-ware-racing\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Rick Ware Racing;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Rick Ware Racing<\/a> driver himself was surprised by the slow response. \u201cObviously, I\u2019m not going anywhere, there\u2019s not much I can do at that point,\u201d Ware said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=U_dBavbA4bY&amp;ab_channel=Frontstretch\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:after the race;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">after the race<\/a>. \u201cAt that point I\u2019m just focused on getting out of the car and getting to a safe spot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Several reports indicate that NASCAR officials did not know how serious the crash was and whether Cody Ware would manage to come out alone. Kind of like what happened to Kyle Larson at this same race last year<br \/>But this time it was different and the delay was much more costly in terms of public trust.<\/p>\n<p>Now that the Chicago race is behind us, the fallout continues. NASCAR\u2019s response time is being questioned again and we\u2019re asking: why did it take a driver\u2019s radioed plea, and 35 seconds, to realize something was seriously wrong?<br \/>The driver walked away this time.
