Around San Diego County the weekend leans into easygoing fun \u2013 a little culture, a little play and just enough sparkle to keep the holiday spirit alive \u2013 weather permitting! <\/p>\n<p>Step into a world of whimsy as Steve Taylor\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/balboaparkpuppets.com\/pages\/schedule-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Magical Marionettes Show<\/a>\u201d takes the stage at the Marie Hitchcock Puppet Theater in Balboa Park for a three-day run. The family comedy star, seen on America\u2019s Got Talent, enchants audiences with puppetry, magic, ventriloquism and the debut of his newest creation, \u201cSammy the Snappy Snake Charmer.\u201d Shows are Friday at 2 p.m., with Saturday and Sunday performances at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $7 for seniors and military.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Balboa Park\u2019s WorldBeat Cultural Center hosts its 45th annual free, family-friendly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldbeatcenter.org\/event\/44th-annual-kwanzaa-celebration-december-26th-umoja-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kwanzaa Celebration<\/a> Friday through Monday, honoring four of the seven days of the African American holiday. Doors open nightly at 6 p.m., programs start at 6:30 p.m. and each night includes candle lighting, libations, drumming, poetry, speakers and a traditional feast. This year also introduces the Kwanzaa Awards, recognizing community leaders who embody the holiday\u2019s values, including unity, purpose and creativity. The museum\u2019s flight deck is sparkling with over a million lights, festive performances and new attractions such as the Holiday Dancing Light Show, expanded Reindeer Games and a penguin scavenger hunt. Tickets are $30 for adults, $20 for kids 4-12 and free for children 3 and under, plus discounts for Midway members. The celebration runs on select nights through Dec. 30 from 5:30-9 p.m.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Stop by the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego in La Jolla, where \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/mcasd.org\/about\/press\/fast-cars-and-open-roads-pop-artists-capture-a-cultural-era\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A Decade of Pop Prints and Multiples, 1962-1972: The Frank Mitzel Collection<\/a>\u201d widens the eyes. From Campbell\u2019s soup cans to Phillips 66 signs, this colorful collection of more than 60 prints brings mid-century Pop Art to life for the first time, thanks to collector Frank Mitzel. Catch it Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., or Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets start at $15 for locals and students, $25 general and entry is free for visitors 25 and under, military or SNAP\/EBT cardholders.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Headed to Petco Park for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wildhorsesfest.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wild Horses Music Festival<\/a> Saturday? To help fans travel smoothly, the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System is rolling out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sdmts.com\/rider-info\/events\/wild-horses-festival-featuring-mumford-sons\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">enhanced trolley service<\/a> before and after the show. The festival is headlined by Grammy-winning Mumford &amp; Sons and features a strong Americana, country and modern folk lineup including Lord Huron, Sierra Ferrell and Lily Meola. Doors open at 4 p.m. and tickets start at about $55.<\/p>\n<p>If you haven\u2019t laced up yet, now\u2019s the time because San Diego\u2019s outdoor ice rinks are about to pack it in. Liberty Station\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/rchicerink.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rady Children\u2019s Hospital rink<\/a> and Hotel del Coronado\u2019s famous <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hoteldel.com\/events\/skating-by-the-sea\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Skating by the Sea<\/a> both wrap up Jan. 4, while <a href=\"https:\/\/viejasoutletcenter.com\/skating-rink\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Viejas Outlet Center Ice Rink<\/a> in Alpine keeps skating open through Jan. 11. Admission fees vary, and each rink donates a portion of proceeds to causes such as Make-A-Wish\u00ae San Diego.<\/p>\n<p>Prefer to watch the action rather than take to the ice?
