{"id":471377,"date":"2025-12-25T20:04:22","date_gmt":"2025-12-25T20:04:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/471377\/"},"modified":"2025-12-25T20:04:22","modified_gmt":"2025-12-25T20:04:22","slug":"winter-storm-could-dump-up-to-8-inches-of-on-nyc-this-weekend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/471377\/","title":{"rendered":"Winter storm could dump up to 8 inches of on NYC this weekend"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While New York City didn\u2019t see a white Christmas, it may be a very white weekend.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/abc7ny.com\/post\/storm-bring-widespread-snow-mix-nyc-tri-state-area-friday-night-saturday-morning\/18310884\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A quick moving snowstorm<\/a> set to tap into fresh Arctic air will chill out much of the tri-state area and could bring significant snowfall to New York, New Jersey and swaths of southern and central New England starting on Friday night, according the National Weather Service.<\/p>\n<p>Snowfall of 4 to 8 inches is possible and as much as 10 inches is a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NWSNewYorkNY\/status\/2004139089554296962\/photo\/1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201creasonable worst case scenario,\u201d<\/a> according to the forecast, with snow typically falling at a rate of 1 inch per hour and, at times, as quickly as 2 inches per hour. The precipitation will begin early enough to affect Friday evening\u2019s commute, starting off light and dry before growing wetter and heavier as the storm moves into the area.<\/p>\n<p>According to AccuWeather, the snowfall will likely be at its most intense overnight, around 2 or 3 a.m. on Saturday and continuing through the morning and into the early afternoon hours, when the flakes are expected to taper off entirely.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.accuweather.com\/en\/winter-weather\/late-week-snowstorm-looms-for-part-of-northeast-including-nyc\/1846942\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cThis fast-moving storm<\/a> will pack a punch in the Northeast right after Christmas. Holiday travelers should prepare for major slowdowns on roads and at airports,\u201d AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Tyler Roys said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTravel plans could be delayed or disrupted for millions of people trying to visit loved ones or returning home after Christmas,\u201d he continued. \u201cThe busy period for shopping, gift exchanges and returns after Christmas may also be impacted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"Snowfall is pictured in Brooklyn, New York, on Sunday Dec. 14, 2025. (Theodore Parisienne \/ New York Daily News)<\/p>\n<p>A winter storm watch is in effect for much of the tri-state area, including New York City, beginning 4 p.m. Friday and continuing through 1 p.m. Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>New York City Emergency Management has also issued a travel advisory for the same timeframe, with both Mayor Eric Adams and Gov. Kathy Hochul urging New Yorkers to avoid travel if possible.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNew York is no stranger <a href=\"https:\/\/www.governor.ny.gov\/news\/governor-hochul-urges-caution-ahead-post-holiday-snowfall\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">to snow and cold weather,<\/a> and given the Christmas holidays, it\u2019s important to be extra prepared before getting on the road,\u201d Hochul said in\u00a0 a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs always, I urge New Yorkers to monitor their local forecast, and text their county or borough name to our weather and emergency alerts system,\u201d she continued. \u201cStay vigilant, drive slow if you need to travel and have a safe holiday weekend.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The city has seen little snow this year outside of a few inches earlier this month. Before that, the last measurable snow in NYC was on Feb. 20, 2025, which wrapped a disappointing season for winter weather lovers.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, just more than a foot of snow accumulated throughout the entire season, topping 2023\u2019s total, which measured just about 8 inches. The snowfall in the year prior was even more meager, with totals barely topping 2 inches.<\/p>\n<p>It follows a fairly mild and sunny Christmas day, when highs hovered in the low and mid-40s. But that\u2019s where the warm weather is set to end, with temperatures forecast to plunge into the 20s on Friday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"While New York City didn\u2019t see a white Christmas, it may be a very white weekend.
