But this Christmas, a chain of kindness from strangers helped make his cowboy dreams fit just right.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cHe just wanted some cowboy boots,\u201d said Madison Eschete, Remy\u2019s mother. \u201cIt\u2019s very hard to find things for him that are everyday things for us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The journey to Remy\u2019s perfect pair of boots began during his hippotherapy sessions, therapeutic horseback riding that helps strengthen his hip muscles. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">During one session, Madison mentioned to Remy\u2019s instructor how difficult it was to find boots that would fit over his leg braces.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">That conversation set in motion a series of connections that led to Republic Boot Company in Houston\u2019s Heights neighborhood, where craftsmen specialize in handmade custom boots.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cTake it on one like this to put a zipper in the side of a boot for a young man that wants to be a cowboy&#8230; make his dream come true,\u201d said Spencer Burkhalter, Production Manager at Republic Boot Company.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The company, which has previously helped other clients with special needs, modified Remy\u2019s boots by adding side zippers to accommodate his leg braces. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Bootmaker Adalberto Sanchez completed the modification the same day, drawing from his own experience of adding zippers to his children\u2019s boots years ago.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cIt was something very simple, but very meaningful,\u201d Sanchez said through a translator.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">For Remy, who recently participated in his first rodeo, the boots represent more than just footwear. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cBecause that\u2019s my favorite thing to do,\u201d he exclaimed when asked about his love for horseback riding.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The modified boots were presented to Remy on Christmas morning as a surprise. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">His mother captured the moment on video as he excitedly unwrapped the gift, shouting \u201cCowboy boots!\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cIt just touched my heart because it\u2019s something that is specific and special for him, and someone thought about him,\u201d Madison said. \u201cHe gets to fit in now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Republic Boot Company provided the modifications free of charge, continuing their tradition of helping those with special needs. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The company has previously created custom boots for several clients, including a girl with braces on both feet and various cancer patients.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cYou can\u2019t really beat that feeling when you see the smile on their face,\u201d Burkhalter said. \u201cWe\u2019ve taken on quite a few of these stories to try to make people happy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">For the Eschete family from Chauvin, Louisiana, this act of kindness means more than just a pair of boots, it represents inclusion and the ability to participate in an activity Remy loves.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cOur normal things are special to him,\u201d Madison explained. \u201cTo find things like this, it\u2019s very difficult. And if you do find it, it\u2019s very expensive.
