A pair of new rumors offer some big updates on the New York Mets\u2019<\/a> pursuit of Cody Bellinger<\/a> and Kyle Tucker<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This has been a frustrating couple of weeks for Mets fans. To begin the month, they were hit with a major shot to the gut when they lost not one, but two members of their core when\u00a0Edwin Diaz<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Pete Alonso<\/a>\u00a0accepted huge contract offers from the\u00a0Los Angeles Dodgers<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Baltimore Orioles<\/a>, respectively.<\/p>\n

The pair of departures were sandwiched between trades that also moved homegrown veterans Brandon Nimmo and Jeff McNeil. It has left the club\u2019s supporters shellshocked and begging for a big move in response. Their additions of Jorge Polanco and Luke Weaver aren\u2019t cutting it. But there is still hope that either Bellinger or Tucker could be the huge fish they finally catch.<\/p>\n

However, it seems the Yankees are feeling very confident about their chances of beating out the team from Queens for Bellinger. \u201cThe Yankees have made him their priority, and seem pretty confident that, unlike superstar Juan Soto<\/a>, he won\u2019t skip to Queens,\u201d Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Kyle Tucker Market Still Wide Open?<\/p>\n

Earlier this month, it looked like Chicago Cubs<\/a> All-Star Kyle Tucker was probably joining either one of two teams: The Toronto Blue Jays<\/a> or the Los Angeles Dodgers<\/a>. However, we are closing in on the start of 2026, and the outfielder remains on the market. And it is unclear when that will change.<\/p>\n

\u201cTop free agent Kyle Tucker was linked weeks ago to the Jays, but his free agency mostly remains a mystery,\u201d Heyman also reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The update seems to suggest the Tucker market is still wide open, which is good news for the NY Mets if they are willing to get close to his rumored asking price near $400 million. They have certainly freed up payroll space this offseason after the departures of Alonso, Diaz, Nimmo, and McNeil.<\/p>\n

NY Mets Attempted Trade For Willson Contreras<\/p>\n

With Alonso off to Baltimore, the team could move Mark Vientos over to first, or place new addition Polanco there. However, according to Heyman, they attempted a trade for three-time All-Star Willson Contreras<\/a> before he was moved to the Boston Red Sox this week.<\/p>\n

Although he started to show signs of a decline at 33 years old this past season, he still smashed 20 homers and 80 RBIs in 135 games this season. If not first base, he could also fill in on occasion at catcher and play DH.<\/p>\n
