{"id":471911,"date":"2025-12-26T02:25:45","date_gmt":"2025-12-26T02:25:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/471911\/"},"modified":"2025-12-26T02:25:45","modified_gmt":"2025-12-26T02:25:45","slug":"nicaraguan-man-in-ice-custody-dies-in-mississippi-hospital","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/471911\/","title":{"rendered":"Nicaraguan Man in ICE Custody Dies in Mississippi Hospital"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Authorities have reported the death of an immigrant in ICE custody in a Natchez, Mississippi hospital, capping off the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/four-died-ice-custody-this-week-2025-deaths-reach-20-year-high-2025-12-19\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">deadliest year for detained immigrants in the United States in over 20 years<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Delvin Francisco Rodriguez, 39, an immigrant from Nicaragua, was declared dead following a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ice.gov\/news\/releases\/illegal-alien-nicaragua-passes-away-hospital-natchez\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cfailed test to determine brain function.\u201d<\/a> Previously, Rodriguez was detained at the Adams County Correctional Center. Rodriguez was taken from the detention center on Dec. 4 after what ICE called \u201can emergency medical call\u201d where he did not respond to staff and did not have a pulse. Rodriguez was declared dead on Dec.14 at Merit Health Natchez.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/austinkocher.substack.com\/p\/ices-deadly-december-record-setting\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">December has been particularly deadly for immigrants in ICE detention.<\/a> Rodriguez\u2019s death is one of the seven reported this month alone\u2014as ICE has yet to update its own detainee death tracker since Sept. 22, 2025, it is unclear if any further deaths have been missed.<\/p>\n<p>The Adams County Correctional Facility is a detention center located just a few miles outside Natchez, MS, with a total average daily population of 2,244. <a href=\"https:\/\/detentionreports.com\/facility\/ADAMS_COUNTY_CORRECTIONAL_CENTER.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Roughly nine in 10 immigrants detained at the center<\/a> have not been charged with a crime.<\/p>\n<p>ICE reports Rodriguez was detained twice before his death in the agency\u2019s custody, first on June 9, 2018, near Menagers Dam Village in Arizona, where he was given an expedited removal order and released on bond. On Sept. 25 of this year, Rodriguez was arrested in Dillon, Colorado, and scheduled to be removed to Nicaragua only a day before his eventual death.<\/p>\n<p>In 2024, an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aclu.org\/press-releases\/95-percent-of-deaths-in-ice-detention-could-likely-have-been-prevented-with-adequate-medical-care-report\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ACLU investigation of 52 deaths between 2017 and 2021 concluded<\/a> that \u201cindependent medical experts found that 95 percent of deaths in detention were deemed as being preventable or possibly preventable if ICE had provided clinically appropriate medical care.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ice.gov\/news\/releases\/illegal-alien-nicaragua-passes-away-hospital-natchez\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">In its statement,<\/a> ICE contends that consistent and quality medical care is provided to all detainees. \u201cComprehensive medical care is provided from the moment individuals arrive and throughout the entirety of their stay. All illegal aliens in ICE custody receive medical, dental and mental health intake screening within 12 hours of arriving at each detention facility; a full health assessment within 14 days of entering ICE custody or arrival at a facility; access to medical appointments, and 24-hour emergency care.
