Community members in San Bernardino put “love thy neighbor” into practice on Christmas Day as they went inside a burning home and rescued residents as well as their pets, officials said Thursday.<\/p>\n
The San Bernardino County Fire Department said the fire was reported at a home on 7th Street near H Street at around 3 p.m.. <\/p>\n
Before firefighters were able to arrive at the scene, neighbors went inside and woke up a husband and wife who were sleeping at the time. The good Samaritans were also able to rescue the couple’s five dogs, who were not injured. <\/p>\n
Once fire crews reached the burning home, they realized the residence was a converted into a quadplex with two units in the front and two others in the back.<\/p>\n
The front dwelling spaces were severely affected by the fire, while the two back units sustained smoke and water damage.<\/p>\n
It was not immediately clear what cause the fire.<\/p>\n
The rescued couple was taken to a hospital for minor burns and smoke inhalation.<\/p>\n
