{"id":4725,"date":"2025-06-22T08:07:15","date_gmt":"2025-06-22T08:07:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/4725\/"},"modified":"2025-06-22T08:07:15","modified_gmt":"2025-06-22T08:07:15","slug":"naomi-osakas-coach-doesnt-believe-rafael-nadal-as-he-reacts-to-his-recent-comments-i-dont-think-its-true","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/4725\/","title":{"rendered":"Naomi Osaka\u2019s coach &#8216;doesn\u2019t believe&#8217; Rafael Nadal as he reacts to his recent comments, &#8216;I don&#8217;t think it&#8217;s true&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Rafael Nadal enjoyed a legendary tennis career, reaching world number one and winning 22 Grand Slam titles.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Spaniard competed on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/atp\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ATP Tour<\/a> for over 20 years, picking up 92 titles in total.<\/p>\n<p>Nadal completed the Grand Slam, winning titles at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/australian-open\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Australian Open<\/a> (2), French Open (14), Wimbledon (2), and the US Open (4).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"665\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/GettyImages-1401193142-1024x665.jpg\" alt=\"Rafael Nadal of Spain bites the trophy after winning against Casper Ruud of Norway during the Men's Singles Final match on Day 15 of The 2022 French Open at Roland Garros.\" class=\"wp-image-98669\" \/>Photo by Clive Brunskill\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Few players are more qualified to talk about \u2018winning\u2019 than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/rafael-nadal\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nadal<\/a>, and he did just that at this year\u2019s French Open.<\/p>\n<p>Nadal claimed he learned more from his wins than his losses during his career, something one top <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/wta\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">WTA<\/a> coach \u2018doesn\u2019t believe\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Patrick Mouratoglou thinks the \u2018exact opposite\u2019 to Rafael Nadal <\/p>\n<p>During a press conference at the 2025 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/french-open\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">French Open<\/a>, Nadal explained why he felt he learned more from victory than defeat.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI learned much more from victories than defeats, I\u2019ve always said that,\u201d said Nadal.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/GettyImages-2217031159-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Rafael Nadal speaks to the media during the 2025 French Open\" class=\"wp-image-103994\" \/>Photo by Andy Cheung\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause I was always self-critical enough with myself so that my victories help me read all the things I need to improve.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Talking on Instagram, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/naomi-osaka\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Naomi Osaka\u2019s<\/a> coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, reacted to Nadal\u2019s controversial comments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the exact opposite. It\u2019s not surprising to me that he took the losses quite badly; it was quite obvious, and I think you should,\u201d said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/patrick-mouratoglou\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mouratoglou<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou shouldn\u2019t accept to lose, that\u2019s one of the marks of the champions, to refuse to lose. To learn nothing is a bit sad, and I don\u2019t think it\u2019s true.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaybe he feels he didn\u2019t learn anything, but I don\u2019t think so. When you lose to players, you understand maybe what you should have done better, how to beat this player, or how to prevent him from beating you.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn your way to success, there will be losses. Those losses tell you all the mistakes you\u2019ve made, and if you\u2019re not listening to the mistakes you\u2019ve made, I don\u2019t think you can progress.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/GettyImages-1301545151-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Patrick Mouratoglou looks on during the 2021 Australian Open\" class=\"wp-image-72784\" \/>Photo by Cameron Spencer\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>The Frenchman went on to explain what he thinks Nadal actually meant to say.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat he means, probably, is that victory brought him a lot of confidence, which he needed to perform,\u201d said Mouratoglou.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s why it\u2019s important to always have a great balance between victories and defeats and have many more victories than defeats, because if it\u2019s the other way, your confidence goes down, and then it\u2019s difficult to perform without confidence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou need to build it, and you build it a lot, not only, but a lot through victories.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s probably why, but to learn nothing from defeat?
