become the first nation in the world to formally recognise Somaliland, ending the breakaway region\u2019s three-decade quest for international legitimacy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">Foreign Minister <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/gidonsaar\/status\/2004549275817013353\">Gideon Saar<\/a> announced on Friday that Israel and the Republic of Somaliland had signed an agreement establishing full diplomatic relations, including the appointment of ambassadors and the opening of embassies in both countries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">The historic accord marks a significant breakthrough for Somaliland, which declared independence from Somalia in 1991 but has failed to gain recognition from any United Nations member state.<\/p>\n<p>Somaliland controls the northwestern of the former British Protectorate on what is today northern Somalia.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">Israeli Prime Minister <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/israelipm\/status\/2004550707530076582?s=46\">Benjamin Netanyahu<\/a> described the new friendship as \u201cseminal and historic\u201d in a video call with Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi, inviting him to visit Israel and calling it a \u201cgreat opportunity to expand their partnership.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">Saar said the agreement followed a year of extensive dialogue between the two governments and was based on a joint decision by Netanyahu and Abdullahi.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">\u201cWe will work together to promote the relations between our countries and nations, regional stability and economic prosperity,\u201d Saar wrote on social media, adding that he had instructed his ministry to
