The 50-acre Hillside Section is part of the 68-acre resource-based park bordering the western edge of Point Loma.<\/p>\n City approves Safe Parking Program at H Barracks <\/strong><\/p>\n On April 10, the City Council\u2019s Land Use and Housing Committee unanimously approved a contract with Jewish Family Service of San Diego to implement a Safe Parking Program at H Barracks <\/a>adjacent to the airport and near Liberty Station.<\/p>\n ADU Bonus Program revamped <\/strong><\/p>\n A majority of the San Diego City Council agreed with public concerns that the ADU Bonus Program<\/a> allowed excessive densification and exploitation by some developers, compromising the character of single-family neighborhoods.<\/p>\n Point Loma Rotary Club celebrates 75 years <\/strong><\/p>\n At the Rotary Club\u2019s<\/a> anniversary celebration on April 27, members reminisced about years gone by, and all the accomplishments and benefits the community has reaped as a result of the club\u2019s efforts and initiatives.<\/p>\n Residents rally against housing project <\/strong><\/p>\n Protect Point Loma updated residents on the battle against the 1004 Rosecrans St. project at a town hall held at Liberty Station Conference Center. At the June 11 meeting, Protect Point Loma<\/a>, a nonprofit advocating for the safety and well-being of the community, detailed why the City\u2019s Complete Communities plan, justifying the affordable housing project, doesn\u2019t fit and won\u2019t work.<\/p>\n Point Loma High centennial<\/p>\n On Sept. 8, 1925, Point Loma Junior-Senior High School<\/a> opened with a staff of 30 teachers and 386 students in grades 7-12. <\/p>\n A century later, the Point Loma community, including alumni and former staff, marked this milestone with a celebration on Sept. 13 at Port Pavilion on the Broadway Pier. In the early 1920s, Edgar F. Hastings, a member of the Board of Education, felt that a new high school needed to be built in a slowly developing community between San Diego Bay and the Pacific Ocean. That school became Point Loma High.<\/p>\n Dedication of \u2018The Joan\u2019 at Liberty Station<\/strong> <\/p>\n The Joan and Irwin Jacobs Performing Arts Center at Liberty Station was formally dedicated<\/a> on Sept. 5, with a ribbon-cutting full of celebratory spirit. The center, located at 2880 Roosevelt Road, features a 289-seat proscenium theater and a 150-seat flexible studio space, as well as support areas including dressing rooms, two green rooms, a costume shop and dedicated rehearsal and orchestra spaces.<\/p>\n Midway Rising developers plan to continue project<\/strong><\/p>\n The developers behind a plan to redevelop the area around Pechanga Arena<\/a> into a dense, urban nightlife district say a court ruling in October that retained a 30-foot height limit on building heights there won\u2019t stop the project. The proposal to build a new sports arena and 4,000 homes \u2014 with half reserved for low-income residents \u2014 includes buildings up to 85-feet tall.<\/p>\n
