{"id":473373,"date":"2025-12-26T18:54:15","date_gmt":"2025-12-26T18:54:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/473373\/"},"modified":"2025-12-26T18:54:15","modified_gmt":"2025-12-26T18:54:15","slug":"new-york-to-require-social-media-platforms-to-display-mental-health-warnings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/473373\/","title":{"rendered":"New York to require social media platforms to display mental health warnings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">By Jasper Ward<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Dec 26 (Reuters) &#8211; Social media platforms with infinite scrolling, auto-play and algorithmic feeds will be required to display warning \u200blabels about their potential harm to young users\u2019 mental health \u200cunder a new law, New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced on Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;Keeping New Yorkers safe \u200chas been my top priority since taking office, and that includes protecting our kids from the potential harms of social media features that encourage excessive use,&#8221; Hochul said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">This month Australia imposed a social media \u2060ban for children under \u200c16. New York joins states like <a href=\"https:\/\/local.yahoo.com\/ca\/\" data-ylk=\"slk:California;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">California<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/local.yahoo.com\/mn\/\" data-ylk=\"slk:Minnesota;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minnesota<\/a> that have similar social media laws.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The New York law includes \u200dplatforms that offer &#8220;addictive feeds,&#8221; auto play or infinite scroll, according to the legislation.
