However, he was asked to leave the franchise in November 2020 by Warner Bros. This was due to negative publicity which stemmed from the libel case Depp brought against News Group Newspapers Ltd over domestic abuse allegations from ex-wife Amber Heard.

What was Johnny Depp’s response to being ousted from Harry Potter?

Now, almost five years later, Depp has reflected on being asked to resign the role of Grindelwald during an interview with The Telegraph. “Listen, they’ve said all kinds of things out there in the world about me, and it doesn’t bother me. I’m not running for office. It literally stopped in a millisecond, like, while I was doing the movie. They said we’d like you to resign. But what was really in my head was they wanted me to retire,” Depp recalled.

After being asked to share what his response to that request was at the moment, Depp remarked, “F*** you. There’s far too many of me to kill. If you think you can hurt me more than I’ve already been hurt you’re gravely mistaken.”

A few weeks after Depp was reported not to be returning for The Secrets of Dumbledore, Mads Mikkelsen was cast as Grindelwald. Ultimately, Depp dodged a bullet by not appearing in the third Fantastic Beasts movie, as it received largely negative reviews from critics and was a box office failure, grossing just over $400 million worldwide to become the lowest-grossing installment in the Wizarding World franchise.

Following The Secrets of Dumbledore, Warner Bros. opted to reboot the franchise for the small screen, with a new adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter book series in development for HBO.

The Fantastic Beasts trilogy is currently streaming on Max.

Former Fantastic Beasts actor Johnny Depp has opened up about being ousted from the Harry Potter spin-off series…

[33
185,171,36550,36551,36552,6027,14761,67,132,68,1021
0":"post-47348","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-celebrities","8":"tag-celebrities","9":"tag-entertainment","10":"tag-fantastic-beasts","11":"tag-fantastic-beasts-the-secrets-of-dumbledore","12":"tag-harry-potter","13":"tag-johnny-depp","14":"tag-movie-news","15":"tag-united-states","16":"tag-unitedstates","17":"tag-us","18":"tag-warner-bros
["GET
