{"id":473624,"date":"2025-12-26T21:41:13","date_gmt":"2025-12-26T21:41:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/473624\/"},"modified":"2025-12-26T21:41:13","modified_gmt":"2025-12-26T21:41:13","slug":"several-people-rescued-from-smoke-and-heavy-flame-by-firefighters-at-south-nanaimo-motel-blaze-nanaimonewsnow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/473624\/","title":{"rendered":"Several people rescued \u2018from smoke and heavy flame\u2019 by firefighters at south Nanaimo motel blaze | NanaimoNewsNOW"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/indicator-big.gif\" alt=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>People injured on scene were taken to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital for further care.<\/p>\n<p>Libbus said he had no reason to believe anyone else was missing or was lost in the fire.<\/p>\n<p>Around 40 people were displaced by the fire, including 35 longer-term residents of the motel.<\/p>\n<p>They are being housed temporarily by the City\u2019s emergency services department at a Bowen Park reception centre.<\/p>\n<p>Traffic along Nicol St. was closed in both directions for several hours as firefighters worked the scene.<\/p>\n<p>Considerable resources were deployed to scene including five engines or fire trucks as well as a newly-created squad unit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith multiple apparatus, especially having two truck engines up putting water on to the building, our hydrants were on Nicol St., so we\u2019ll block that off so no firefighters will get injured and we have lots of working room to keep everyone safe,\u201d Libbus added.<\/p>\n<p>RCMP Cst. Sherri Wade told NanaimoNewsNOW very little information in known about the fire so far.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPolice and fire are currently on scene and more information will be provided through out the day,\u201d Wade said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>A cause of the fire has yet to be determined.<\/p>\n<p><b>Local news.
