{"id":473730,"date":"2025-12-26T22:50:15","date_gmt":"2025-12-26T22:50:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/473730\/"},"modified":"2025-12-26T22:50:15","modified_gmt":"2025-12-26T22:50:15","slug":"nws-sends-team-to-investigate-possible-tornado-in-boyle-heights-nbc-los-angeles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/473730\/","title":{"rendered":"NWS sends team to investigate possible tornado in Boyle Heights \u2013 NBC Los Angeles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The National Weather Service has dispatched a team to investigate damage in Boyle Heights that might have been caused by a possible tornado on Christmas morning during a week of strong winds and rain from a holiday week storm in Southern California.<\/p>\n<p>In a post on X, the NWS said the <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NWSLosAngeles\/status\/2004676790103785536\">storm survey<\/a> will be conducted Friday afternoon in the community east of downtown Los Angeles. Survey teams look at factors like a damage pattern to determine whether a tornado touched down and its strength on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.weather.gov\/oun\/efscale\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Enhanced Fujita Scale<\/a>, used to assign a tornado rating between 0 and 5 based on estimated wind speeds and damage. An EF rating of 0 indicates wind speeds of 65 to 85 mph. An EF 5 indicates speeds over 200 mph.<\/p>\n<p>NWS meteorologist Ariel Cohen said the agency received multiple reports of damage Thursday morning that was likely from a weak and brief tornado. There were no reports of injuries. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbclosangeles.com\/weather-news\/live-updates-los-angeles-rain-storm-wind\/3820057\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">On Christmas Eve<\/a>, a tornado <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbclosangeles.com\/weather-news\/live-updates-los-angeles-rain-storm-wind\/3820057\/?cardId=1:9:3820597\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">warning<\/a> was issued for parts of Los Angeles&#8217; San Gabriel Valley during the height of the multi-day storm. There were no reports of a tornado touching down. <\/p>\n<p>Tornados are rare, but not unheard of during severe weather in Southern California.<\/p>\n<p>In March, a weak tornado with winds estimated at about 85 mph left a path of damage that extended for blocks in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbclosangeles.com\/weather-news\/pico-rivera-tornado-storm\/3653747\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pico Rivera<\/a> neighborhood early as a late winter storm brought rain and strong winds to Los Angeles County. The tornado,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/forecast.weather.gov\/product.php?site=lox&amp;issuedby=LOX&amp;product=PNS\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">estimated at EF 0<\/a>\u00a0and lasting for about two minutes, was reported at about 3:15 a.m. near the community southeast of downtown Los Angeles.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbclosangeles.com\/weather-news\/oxnard-tornado-mobile-home-park-wind-damage\/3633235\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">February<\/a>, the NWS confirmed that a rare tornado formed in the Ventura County community of Oxnard. The weak tornado caused damage in a mobile home park.<\/p>\n<p>In\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbclosangeles.com\/news\/local\/la-tornado-montebello-business-roof-damage-storm\/3120283\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">March 2023<\/a>, the roof of a Montebello business was ripped off and more than a dozen other buildings were damaged by a tornado in Montebello.<\/p>\n<p>In\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbclosangeles.com\/weather-news\/la-tornado-los-angeles-weather-march-1983\/3105303\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">March 1983<\/a>, a storm system off the coast of California unleashed a terrifying weather oddity south of downtown Los Angeles.
