\n\tJames Cameron<\/a> revealed to Entertainment Weekly<\/a> that he will hold a press conference to reveal the plot details of \u201cAvatar<\/a> 4\u2033 and \u201cAvatar 5\u201d if the franchise ends after \u201cAvatar: Fire and Ash<\/a>,\u201d the third movie in the franchise that is currently playing in theaters. The Oscar-winning director has been vocal on the \u201cFire and Ash\u201d press tour that the future of the \u201cAvatar\u201d franchise depends on the third movie being a financial success. Cameron is prepared to end the series if it\u2019s not. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI don\u2019t know if the saga goes beyond this point. I hope it does,\u201d Cameron told EW. \u201cBut, you know, we prove that business case every time we go out\u2026 If we don\u2019t get to make 4 and 5, for whatever reason, I\u2019ll hold a press conference and I\u2019ll tell you what we were gonna do. How\u2019s that?\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tCameron said his other option is to novelize his scripts for \u201cAvatar 4\u201d and \u201cAvatar 5,\u201d adding: \u201cThere\u2019s so much culture and backstory and lateral detail in these characters that\u2019s been worked out. I\u2019d love to do something that\u2019s at that level of granular detail.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tDuring an interview with Variety<\/a>, Cameron said \u201cwe\u2019re getting ahead of ourselves\u201d when asked about \u201cAvatar 4\u201d because \u201cwe\u2019ve got to make some money with this one. Every time we go out, we have to prove this crazy business case yet again. The world has changed. We all know the stats, where theatrical is. It\u2019s been a bad year. It\u2019s starting to perk up a little bit with a couple of recent releases: \u2018Wicked: For Good\u2019 has done well, and \u2018Zootopia 2\u2019 is doing well. So, we\u2019ll see.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIt appears Cameron might not need to hold a press tour to reveal the final two \u201cAvatar\u201d movies because \u201cFire and Ash\u201d is performing quite well at the box office. The movie crossed the $500 million mark at the worldwide box office after one week in theaters and is expected to have strong holds into the new year. The previous two \u201cAvatar\u201d movies both cleared the $2 billion mark worldwide.<\/p>\n

\n\tJon Landau, the franchise\u2019s late producer,\u00a0let it slip to Gizmodo<\/a>\u00a0in 2022 that \u201cAvatar 5\u201d brings the Na\u2019vi characters to Earth, adding: \u201cAnd we go to it to open people\u2019s eyes, open Neytiri\u2019s eyes, to what exists on Earth.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tCameron has left it up in the air whether or not he will direct the next two \u201cAvatar\u201d movies himself. He told Empire<\/a>\u00a0in 2022 that helming the franchise is \u201call-consuming\u201d and he might want to \u201cpass the baton\u201d to another director starting with \u201cAvatar 4.\u201d\u00a0But he recently said<\/a> before \u201cFire and Ash\u2019s\u201d release that \u201cthere\u2019s no reason not to\u201d direct the next sequel himself.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019m healthy, I\u2019m good to go. I\u2019m not going to rule it out,\u201d Cameron added. \u201cI mean, I\u2019ve got to make it in a vigorous way, to handle the kind of volume and energy of the work for another six or seven years. You know what I mean?
