From pop-rock to thrash to hip-hop, there was something for everybody.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ MORE:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/1986-best-rock-albums\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">1986&#8217;s Best Rock Albums<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Hard Rock and Metal Ruled the Roost in 1986<\/p>\n<p>Hard rock\u00a0remained a commercial juggernaut, with successful new releases from <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/tags\/ozzy-osbourne\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ozzy Osbourne<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/tags\/van-halen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Van Halen<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/tags\/journey\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Journey<\/a> and a newly solo <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/tags\/david-lee-roth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">David Lee Roth<\/a> selling millions of copies. Yet all of those\u00a0records paled in comparison to <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/tags\/bon-jovi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bon Jovi<\/a>&#8216;s star-making third album,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/bon-jovi-slippery-when-wet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Slippery When Wet<\/a>, which soared to No. 1 and went on to sell more than 15 million copies in the U.S. alone.<\/p>\n<p>Bon Jovi became poster boys for the glam metal scene, which\u00a0enjoyed meteoric success in 1986. Behind\u00a0Slippery When Wet, bands such as <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/tags\/poison\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Poison<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/tags\/cinderella\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cinderella<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/tags\/ratt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ratt<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/tags\/europe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Europe<\/a> also staked their claim for pop-metal supremacy.<\/p>\n<p>Fans of more aggressive fare found plenty to sink their teeth into as well. <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/tags\/iron-maiden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Iron Maiden<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/tags\/judas-priest\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Judas Priest<\/a> both broke out the guitar synthesizers for the first time on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/iron-maiden-somewhere-in-time\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Somewhere in Time<\/a> and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/judas-priest-interview-2017\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Turbo<\/a>, respectively.\u00a0Three members of thrash&#8217;s &#8220;Big 4&#8221; \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/tags\/metallica\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Metallica<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/tags\/megadeth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Megadeth<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/tags\/slayer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Slayer<\/a> \u2014 also released career-defining albums that would go down in history as some of metal&#8217;s finest works.<\/p>\n<p>How Several Classic Rock Veterans Rebounded in 1986<\/p>\n<p>But it wasn&#8217;t just the headbanging contingent that got their fill in 1986. Classic rock and pop-rock fans satiated themselves with\u00a0blockbuster new\u00a0releases from <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/tags\/paul-simon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Paul Simon<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/tags\/tina-turner\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tina Turner<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/tags\/prince\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Prince<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/tags\/peter-cetera\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Peter Cetera<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/tags\/steve-winwood\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Steve Winwood<\/a>.
