New York City hospitals reported 9,857 emergency room visits for <a href=\"https:\/\/a816-health.nyc.gov\/hdi\/epiquery\/visualizations?PageType=ps&amp;PopulationSource=Syndromic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">flu-like illness<\/a> in the week ending Dec. 20, the highest level seen in at least a decade.<\/p>\n<p>Lab-confirmed cases show how widespread the virus has become, with the city <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/12\/26\/nyregion\/nyc-flu-cases.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recording 32,239<\/a> flu cases that week.
