{"id":475906,"date":"2025-12-27T23:38:12","date_gmt":"2025-12-27T23:38:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/475906\/"},"modified":"2025-12-27T23:38:12","modified_gmt":"2025-12-27T23:38:12","slug":"jacksonvilles-163rd-traffic-fatality-of-2025-happened-friday-night-on-new-kings-road-36-have-involved-pedestrians","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/475906\/","title":{"rendered":"Jacksonville\u2019s 163rd traffic fatality of 2025 happened Friday night on New Kings Road. 36 have involved pedestrians"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><strong>JACKSONVILLE, Fla.<\/strong> \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.news4jax.com\/news\/local\/2025\/12\/27\/pedestrian-dies-after-being-struck-on-new-kings-road\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.news4jax.com\/news\/local\/2025\/12\/27\/pedestrian-dies-after-being-struck-on-new-kings-road\/\">A pedestrian was killed Friday night in a crash on New Kings Road, <\/a>marking Jacksonville\u2019s 163rd traffic fatality and 36th pedestrian death of 2025, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The fatal collision occurred just after 6:30 p.m. on New Kings Road, about a half-mile south of I-295, when a northbound driver struck a man who was in the roadway, authorities said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">A witness who was driving several cars behind the incident described a violent impact that scattered debris across the road. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The witness, who called 911, said she stopped to help but found the victim had no pulse by the time she reached him. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">She told News4JAX that the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.<\/p>\n<p><b>Recent string of pedestrian fatalities<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">This latest death adds to a concerning trend of pedestrian-involved crashes in Jacksonville. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">There have been over 460 crashes involving pedestrians in 2025 alone. Recent incidents include:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 kDvXdO font_openSans articleList\">\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\"\/>\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\"\/><\/ul>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">In Woodbine, Georgia, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.news4jax.com\/news\/georgia\/2025\/12\/27\/community-to-honor-9-year-old-killed-in-camden-county-crash\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.news4jax.com\/news\/georgia\/2025\/12\/27\/community-to-honor-9-year-old-killed-in-camden-county-crash\/\">a 9-year-old girl was struck and killed by a car last week<\/a> while playing outside.<\/p>\n<p><b>Safety concerns<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">News4JAX Crime and Safety Analyst Tom Hackney noted Jacksonville\u2019s pedestrian crash numbers are unusually high compared to state trends.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cJacksonville\u2019s numbers this year in 2025 have just been so high&#8230; It\u2019s a little bit of an odd phenomenon in the north Florida area here that our numbers are high when everybody else seems to be either leveled out or even down from where they were,\u201d Hackney said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">While emphasizing the importance of driver vigilance, Hackney also pointed to pedestrian responsibility, particularly regarding crosswalk usage and visibility. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Investigators noted there were no visible crosswalks in the area of the New Kings Road crash.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The identity of the victim has not yet been released by JSO.
