After receiving her diagnosis, she decided not to file for reelection in 2026. She went into hospice several weeks ago.<\/p>\n<p>Bexar County has four Justices of the Peace who preside over minor criminal and civil issues, like traffic offenses and landlord-tenant disputes. They also perform marriage ceremonies and bail hearings, though the job doesn\u2019t require a law degree. <\/p>\n<p>The Bexar County Commissioners Court will appoint a temporary justice in Precinct 4 until Garcia\u2019s replacement is elected next year.<\/p>\n<p>Four Democrats are running for the position in the March 3 primary: Erasmo \u201cRaz\u201d Hernandez, who worked as a\u00a0litigation support and evidence manager at the district attorney\u2019s office; Anna Campos, a business consultant; Veronica Brooks, who worked as a contract specialist for the Department of Defense; and Chris McKnight, a court clerk.<\/p>\n<p>No Republicans filed for the seat.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/sanantonioreport.org\/author\/andrea-drusch\/\" rel=\"author noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Avatar photo\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/BC0E54A7-FB96-47C4-B1BE-28F5F26879DE-80x80.jpeg\"  class=\"avatar avatar-80 photo\" height=\"80\" width=\"80\"\/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tAndrea Drusch writes about local government for the San Antonio Report.
