{"id":475987,"date":"2025-12-28T00:28:12","date_gmt":"2025-12-28T00:28:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/475987\/"},"modified":"2025-12-28T00:28:12","modified_gmt":"2025-12-28T00:28:12","slug":"jamie-lee-curtis-says-thank-god-mom-shut-down-exorcist-audition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/475987\/","title":{"rendered":"Jamie Lee Curtis Says &#8216;Thank God&#8217; Mom Shut Down &#8216;Exorcist&#8217; Audition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/jamie-lee-curtis\/\" id=\"auto-tag_jamie-lee-curtis\" data-tag=\"jamie-lee-curtis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jamie Lee Curtis<\/a> is thankful her movie star mom made her wait to start acting in horror movies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tDuring a recent appearance on \u201cThe Drew Barrymore Show\u201d (via <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/jamie-lee-curtis-glad-did-not-audition-exorcist-11876346?taid=694ed775f6b71000019751e3&amp;utm_campaign=peoplemagazine&amp;utm_content=new&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">People<\/a>), Curtis said that a producer wanted her to audition for \u201cThe Exorcist.\u201d However, her mother, Janet Leigh, shut down the opportunity, protecting her then 12-year-old daughter from early fame and any potential trauma that came with starring in one of the scariest movies ever made.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cHe called my mom and said, \u2018Hey, I\u2019m producing the movie of the book \u201cThe Exorcist.\u201d Will you let Jamie audition for it?\u2019\u201d Curtis recalled. \u201cAnd at the time I was probably 12 and, like, cute and kind of sassy and I had some personality and I\u2019m sure he saw me at a party and was like, \u2018Oh, she\u2019d be funny.\u2019 And my mother said, \u2018No.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tShe then told host Barrymore, \u201cMy mom really wanted me to have, thank God, a childhood, which I understand you didn\u2019t get. You didn\u2019t get that option.\u201d Barrymore\u2019s first role was in \u201cE.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.\u201d She was just seven years old playing Elliot\u2019s younger sister. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tLinda Blair would ultimately be cast as the possessed child, Regan. She was nominated at the 1974 Acadmey Awards for best supporting actor for the role.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tCurtis would eventually become synonymous with the horror genre, first breaking out in the 1978 classic \u201cHalloween\u201d at age 19.
