HARRIS COUNTY, Texas \u2014 Harris County Sheriff\u2019s Office deputies are investigating a possible animal fighting case after discovering numerous roosters, including several that were dead, at a property in northeast Harris County on Saturday.<\/p>\n
According to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, deputies responded to a call for service involving suspected animal fighting on Danek near FM 1942 in the Crosby area. When deputies got there, they found a large number of roosters on the property, some of which were deceased. Authorities said they could hear active rooster fighting.<\/p>\n
Several people drove away from the scene, but multiple people were detained.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe homeowner could be charged for having rooster fighting on this property, and also the spectators who were detained could be charged with participating by watching the rooster fighting,\u201d Sgt. Tommy Smith with the Harris County Sheriff\u2019s Office said.<\/p>\n
Harris County Public Health officials were on site, and the Humane Society will take in the live roosters as the sheriff\u2019s office animal cruelty unit continues its investigation.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s some dead carcasses of roosters on the property, so that\u2019s our main goal is to protect animals, but it also brings gambling and other illegal activity,\u201d Sgt. Clinton Nash with HCSO said.<\/p>\n
Investigators did not provide a specific number of people detained or the number of those who left the scene.<\/p>\n
