{"id":476422,"date":"2025-12-28T05:10:15","date_gmt":"2025-12-28T05:10:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/476422\/"},"modified":"2025-12-28T05:10:15","modified_gmt":"2025-12-28T05:10:15","slug":"tempe-city-council-forms-e-bike-safety-subcommittee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/476422\/","title":{"rendered":"Tempe City Council forms e-bike safety subcommittee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PHOENIX \u2014 The Tempe City Council recently announced that it has formed a subcommittee that will specialize on e-bike and other electric transportation safety.<\/p>\n<p>According to the City of Tempe, the <a href=\"http:\/\/tempe.gov\/government\/mayor-and-city-council\/council-subcommittees\/motorized-and-electric-mobility-device-safety-council-subcommittee\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Motorized &amp; Electric Mobility Device Safety Council Subcommittee<\/a> will evaluate current conditions as it pertains to electric micromobility device safety and recommend improvement strategies to reduce rider injuries and increase access to sustainable mobility.<\/p>\n<p>Councilmember Jennifer Adams will chair the subcommittee and Councilmember Berdetta Hodge will be a member of it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMicromobility is transforming how people move around Tempe,\u201d Councilmember Adams said in an announcement. \u201cBut with that transformation comes a responsibility to ensure our streets, sidewalks and shared spaces are safe for everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>More details on Tempe\u2019s e-bike safety subcommittee<\/p>\n<p>The subcommittee will align its work with the city council\u2019s strategic priorities to create safe and secure communities, as well as enhance Tempe residents\u2019 quality of life.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, it will collaborate with city departments, schools, businesses and community partners to take a data-driven approach. This will allow it to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Analyze data on local crashes and injuries involving e-bikes and scooters.<\/li>\n<li>Review other cities\u2019 practices.<\/li>\n<li>Identify opportunities where safety regulations can be strengthened.<\/li>\n<li>Broaden education and outreach for riders as well as motorists.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>According to a U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission study, there were more than 77,000 injuries and 129 fatalities from microbility devices reported nationwide between 2017 and 2021, an increase of 127%.<\/p>\n<p>The first meeting for the subcommittee will be on Jan. 7, 2026 at 2 p.m. It will be located on the third floor of Tempe City Hall, which is located off <a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/aVxbKsHAe4a1wVsA7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mill Avenue and Fifth Street<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We want to hear from you.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0px;\">Have a story idea or tip?
