A statement from Nabu, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau, accused State Security Department guards of \u201cresisting Nabu officers during investigative actions in committees of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine\u201d. The anti-corruption agency did not reveal details of the investigation, but said suspects took bribes for votes.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\"><strong>Ukraine\u2019s State Security Department said the anti-corruption detectives were stopped at first by security but later allowed in.<\/strong> An <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2025\/nov\/28\/ukraines-anti-corruption-agencies-search-home-zelenskyy-chief-aide-andriy-yermak\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">earlier corruption investigation<\/a> has led to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2025\/nov\/28\/ukraine-corruption-scandal-threatens-zelenskyy-special-relationship-with-top-aide\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">resignation of the chief of staff<\/a> to the president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy. It involved an alleged $100m kickback scheme in the battered energy sector, allegedly masterminded by a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2025\/nov\/19\/ukraine-energy-sector-corruption-crisis\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">personal friend of the president<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\"><strong>Zelenskyy said he would hold talks with European leaders<\/strong> after meeting Donald Trump on Sunday. The Ukrainian president said he had spoken with a group of <strong>Ukraine\u2019s partners to coordinate priorities on the diplomatic track<\/strong>. \u201cTomorrow, after the meeting with President Trump, we will continue the discussion.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2025\/dec\/26\/zelenskyy-to-meet-trump-in-coming-days-as-us-steps-up-push-for-ukraine-peace-deal\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Ukrainian leader has headed to Florida<\/a> for the Trump meeting. Zelenskyy stopped in Canada, where he met the prime minister, Mark Carney, who announced an <strong>additional $2.5bn (\u00a31.85bn) of economic aid for Ukraine<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Ahead of the Florida meeting, and amid pressure from the Trump administration for Ukraine to concede territory for peace, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) assessed that Russia is demanding such concessions because it <strong>\u201cdoes not have sufficient manpower or materiel\u201d to take the rest of the Donetsk region<\/strong> <strong>while continuing its war in other parts of Ukraine.<\/strong> \u201cThe Kremlin is therefore making demands in negotiations that Ukraine cede the unoccupied parts of Donetsk oblast,\u201d the ISW assessed, \u201c\u2026 possibly to put Russia in a more advantageous position to re-invade in the future to pursue Putin\u2019s longer-term strategic goal of controlling all of Ukraine.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\"><strong>The Kremlin\u2019s commanders are sending false reports up the chain of command<\/strong>, contributing to Ukrainian gains on the battlefield, according to complaints from Russian milbloggers as reported by the ISW, which said: \u201cUkrainian forces continue to make <a href=\"https:\/\/understandingwar.org\/research\/russia-ukraine\/russian-offensive-campaign-assessment-december-26-2025\/\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tactical gains in Kupiansk<\/a>, and <strong>Russian milbloggers are increasingly acknowledging Ukrainian successes<\/strong>.
