{"id":477370,"date":"2025-12-29T10:16:09","date_gmt":"2025-12-29T10:16:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/477370\/"},"modified":"2025-12-29T10:16:09","modified_gmt":"2025-12-29T10:16:09","slug":"brazilian-ex-president-bolsonaro-treated-for-persistent-hiccups-jair-bolsonaro","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/477370\/","title":{"rendered":"Brazilian ex-president Bolsonaro treated for persistent hiccups | Jair Bolsonaro"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Brazil\u2019s former president <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/jair-bolsonaro\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jair Bolsonaro<\/a> underwent \u201ca phrenic nerve block procedure\u201d on Saturday to treat his persistent hiccups, his wife, Michelle Bolsonaro, said on social media.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The doctors treating Bolsonaro said later that they blocked the right phrenic nerve and scheduled a new procedure in 48 hours to block the left one.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The phrenic nerve is described in medical literature as a vital nerve originating in the neck that controls the diaphragm, the primary muscle for breathing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cIt\u2019s been nine months of struggle and anguish with daily hiccups,\u201d Michelle Bolsonaro said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Bolsonaro\u2019s doctors said the procedure went well.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Bolsonaro, 70, had been hospitalised on Wednesday for hernia surgery. In September, he was convicted and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2025\/nov\/25\/jair-bolsonaro-brazil-prison\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sentenced to 27 years in prison<\/a> by Brazil\u2019s supreme court for plotting a coup to overturn his 2022 election loss.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">At the request of his defence lawyers, he was authorised by supreme court justice Alexandre de Moraes to leave prison for the surgery.
