{"id":477850,"date":"2025-12-29T14:53:15","date_gmt":"2025-12-29T14:53:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/477850\/"},"modified":"2025-12-29T14:53:15","modified_gmt":"2025-12-29T14:53:15","slug":"alexis-dornier-references-moonraker-concept-art-for-villa-omah-prana","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/477850\/","title":{"rendered":"Alexis Dornier references Moonraker concept art for Villa Omah Prana"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Architect <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/alexis-dornier\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alexis Dornier<\/a> referenced concept sketches for a James Bond film to create Villa Omah Prana, a doughnut-shaped <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/houses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">house<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/Bali\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bali<\/a> that gives each space views out over the surrounding forest.<\/p>\n<p>Located in the highlands of Payangan, the 475-square-metre circular home is organised around a raised brick planter at its heart, while the perimeter is wrapped by a walkway shaded by the eaves of a large wooden-shingle roof.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/alexisdornier.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dornier<\/a> found an unlikely source of inspiration for Villa Omah Prana&#8217;s form in the concept art of the space station in the 1970s James Bond film Moonraker.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2280669 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/villa-omah-prana-alexis-dornier-architecture-residential-houses-bali_dezeen_2364_col_14-852x1193.jpg\" alt=\"Ring-shaped house in Bali\" width=\"1688\" height=\"2364\"  \/>Alexis Dornier has created a ring-shaped villa in Bali<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The project follows one clear idea: a ring-shaped plan that places all rooms along the perimeter, orienting them toward the surrounding landscape,&#8221; said Alexis Dornier.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Some of the curvature and the atmosphere reference early Ken Adam sketches for Moonraker \u2013 especially the clarity of a bold geometric move and the way space can feel choreographed without being theatrical,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The geometry behaves almost like ripples expanding from one moment of impact \u2013 simple, readable, and consistent.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2280659 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/villa-omah-prana-alexis-dornier-architecture-residential-houses-bali_dezeen_2364_col_4-852x568.jpg\" alt=\"Villa Omah Prana by Alexis Dornier\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1577\"  \/>It is organised around a raised brick planter<\/p>\n<p>The ring-shaped plan of Villa Omah Prana has been kept one-room deep, with internal spaces sandwiched between the villa&#8217;s perimeter walkway and a ring-shaped corridor that surrounds the large brick planter at its centre.<\/p>\n<p>Bedrooms occupy more sealed, air-conditioned spaces that face outward, while the open-plan living, dining and kitchen area leads out to both a curved pool and terrace on the home&#8217;s northeastern edge and to the internal courtyard.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2022\/07\/31\/alexis-dornier-birdhouses-resort-bali\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"191\" height=\"191\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/bird-houses-alexis-dornier-bali-architecture_dezeen_2364_sq-191x191.jpg\" class=\"excludeLightbox wp-post-image\" alt=\"Guesthouse at Birdhouses resort in Bali\" decoding=\"async\" data-pin-nopin=\"true\"  \/><\/p>\n<p> Alexis Dornier designs Birdhouses resort in Bali to &#8220;blend into nature&#8221;\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Dornier looked to Bali&#8217;s rich tradition of weaving for the villa&#8217;s walls, the dark brickwork of which has been laid in a herringbone pattern and incorporates perforated sections that filter light from the courtyard into the bedrooms.<\/p>\n<p>Above, the courtyard&#8217;s ceiling is clad in timber planks that follow the home&#8217;s circular form, sloping gently downwards towards a central lightwell that allows natural light and rainfall into the planter.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2280667 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/villa-omah-prana-alexis-dornier-architecture-residential-houses-bali_dezeen_2364_col_12-852x1193.jpg\" alt=\"Herringbone-pattern brick walls\" width=\"1688\" height=\"2364\"  \/>The brick walls are laid in a herringbone pattern<\/p>\n<p>In Villa Omah Prana&#8217;s living space, a counter, dining table and seating area have all been organised on radial axes, with furniture and carpentry finished in pale timber.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Brickwork laid in herringbone patterns, interlaced wall textures, and subtle geometric motifs reinterpret local craft in a contemporary way,&#8221; said Dornier.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These details add tactility and depth without overwhelming the architecture. The house invites close inspection; it is rich in detail but remains calm and grounded,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2280665 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/villa-omah-prana-alexis-dornier-architecture-residential-houses-bali_dezeen_2364_col_10-852x1193.jpg\" alt=\"Villa Omah Prana by Alexis Dornier\" width=\"1688\" height=\"2364\"  \/>The living area opens onto a terrace and the internal courtyard<\/p>\n<p>Originally born in Germany, <a href=\"https:\/\/alexisdornier.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dornier<\/a> moved his studio to Bali in 2013.
