As a result, school trustees signed off on new boundaries determining where its students will attend in August.

Eden knows his campus is an A-rated school that uses a hands-on learning approach. He’ll be among the last students at Riverside Applied Learning Center.

“I really dislike this because the plan was for my sister to come here,” he told trustees during a Dec. 9 meeting.

Instead, Riverside students will attend Bonnie Brae Elementary about half a mile away. The school will transition to applied learning instruction for all students, according to board documents.

Here’s where other students will attend classes:

Charles E. Briscoe Elementary students will attend Carroll Peak, Morningside and Van Zandt-Guinn elementaries.

Affected schools will hold parent meetings about the shuffling and transportation plans in January, according to board documents.

The closures are among 18 schools that will shutter through 2029. Fort Worth ISD leaders say the closures are necessary for dealing with the district’s aging buildings that require $1.2 billion in repairs and declining enrollment.

The district has lost nearly 13,000 students since 2019 and expects to lose more than 6,500 by 2030.

Administrators project the closures will save more than $77 million over five years. The savings will be reinvested into classrooms, officials said.

Jacob Sanchez is education editor for the Fort Worth Report.
