A year after his best friend was killed<\/a> when a pickup truck driver crashed into a crowd of people during a New Year\u2019s Day celebration in New Orleans, a man who survived the attack spoke with NBC10 about his continued recovery.<\/p>\n

Ryan Quigley told NBC10 his best friend Martin \u201cTiger\u201d Bech always lived his life to the fullest. Quigley, who grew up in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, and attended Lansdale Catholic High School, met Bech at Princeton University where the two were roommates and played football together.<\/p>\n

Quigley and Bech quickly became inseparable, bonding as roommates, teammates, coworkers, and Eagles fans, attending every home game for the Birds for two years straight.<\/p>\n

Quigley and Bech were both on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, Louisiana, for a New Year\u2019s celebration on Jan. 1, 2025. That\u2019s when a man drove a pickup truck into a crowd and engaged in a shootout with police before being shot and killed.<\/p>\n

Fifteen people \u2013 including Bech \u2013 were killed in the attack while dozens of others \u2013 including Quigley \u2013 were injured.\u00a0Bech was 27-years-old.<\/p>\n

A year later, Quigley continues to heal both inside and out.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m getting there,\u201d Quigley said. \u201cI feel like this whole year has just been like, you know it\u2019s felt like one month and you know ten years at the same time. I still feel like I\u2019m pretty numb to everything.\u201d<\/p>\n

Quigley said he doesn\u2019t remember anything that happened immediately after the attack.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just remember Tiger and I had an amazing night together,\u201d Quigley said. \u201cWhen the parents came in and held my hand and told me, I couldn\u2019t even process it because I was too physically injured. I looked like a mummy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Quigley is now working to balance the blessing of being alive while mourning his best friend.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile it\u2019s the worst thing that could\u2019ve possibly happened, I\u2019m blessed to be in the position I\u2019m in and to have Jack come back here this year,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Tiger\u2019s brother, Jack Bech, currently plays for the Las Vegas Raiders, living out his dream of playing in the NFL. Quigley was there at Lincoln Financial Field back on Dec. 14, 2025, when Jack Bech and the Raiders played the Philadelphia Eagles.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery time Tiger and I would come to the Eagles games he was like, \u2018I can\u2019t wait the moment we get to see our brother Jack play at the Linc.\u2019 You know it\u2019s finally here,\u201d Quigley said.<\/p>\n

Before the game in December, Quigley attended a tailgate event at Lincoln Financial Field in Tiger\u2019s honor. He also wore a jersey paying tribute to both Tiger and Jack.<\/p>\n

The Eagles have continued to show tremendous support for Quigley. The team gave him tickets to the Super Bowl last February. Eagles stars Saquon Barkley and Cooper DeJean also gave Quigley a Super Bowl ring in a frame after they beat the Kansas City Chiefs.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery time you see him he has a smile on is face,\u201d Barkley said while describing Quigley. \u201cHe brings a bright light to every single room. Everything happens for a reason and I feel like his story is here to inspire others and he\u2019s doing a really good job with that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, as the one-year anniversary of the attack approaches, Quigley is preparing both mentally and emotionally as he works to keep his best friend’s memory alive. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m scared how I\u2019m going to be.
