Finally filling in the vacant spot across from the future Bally\u2019s casino, Universal Studios is bringing a brand-new horror-themed entertainment venue to the city at 700 W. Chicago Avenue.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RECOMMENDED: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/chicago\/things-to-do\/the-most-haunted-spots-in-chicago\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The 26 most haunted places in Chicago are spooky, scary and just plain odd<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Universal Horror Unleashed has a snappy ring to it, don\u2019t you think? Jam-packed with interesting mazes, jump scares, funky food-and-drink options and a retail space, the planned\u00a0immersive attraction has been\u00a0deemed \u201ca world-class horror attraction and entertainment destination\u201d according to city officials.<\/p>\n<p>The Windy City will earn the special accolade of being the second Universal Horror Unleashed location (the first is set to open this August in Las Vegas, Nevada), as well as the first Universal attraction full-stop in the Midwest, and frankly we couldn\u2019t be prouder of the honor. The Las Vegas location will be home to haunted houses inspired by classic thrillers like The Exorcist and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and the Chicago location will follow suit. Perhaps you\u2019ll see Universal-owned horror characters like Frankenstein\u2019s monster, the Mummy, the Creature from the Black Lagoon, Count Dracula, or Phantom of the Opera?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Not a horror fan? You can at least appreciate that the project is expected to generate more than $1 billion for the local economy and create 400 permanent jobs for Chicagoans.\u00a0\u201cWe\u2019re excited to bring this bold concept to life in Chicago, a city known for its vibrant culture,\u201d Page Thompson, president of new ventures at Universal Destinations &amp; Experiences, said in a news release. \u201cWe\u2019re grateful for the city\u2019s support as we convert this dormant site into a unique attraction that showcases our storytelling expertise and ability to deliver mind-blowing experiences that shatter guest expectations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a news release, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker chimed in as well: \u201cUniversal\u2019s decision to make such a significant investment in Illinois is a testament to the state\u2019s unmatched entertainment sector, renowned workforce and strong infrastructure. Universal choosing Illinois didn\u2019t happen by accident\u2014we were proud to support this project through our EDGE incentive program, which has helped fortify a positive business climate that draws world-class companies to the state.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Universal Horror Unleashed is part of a larger expansion plan from Universal, which will also debut a theme park near Dallas and one in England in the next year or so.
