This Wednesday is the big night for Phoenix music fans. New Year\u2019s Eve, and that\u2019s it.<\/p>\n
Playboy Manbaby\u2019s final hometown show.<\/p>\n
\u201cAfter a lot of thought we\u2019ve decided that Playboy Manbaby will no longer be a band,\u201d founder and front man Robbie Pfeffer said on the band\u2019s social platforms in November. \u201cWe\u2019ve enjoyed being a band. We\u2019ve gotten to share so many cool experiences with all of you. It\u2019s been a really great part of our lives honestly.\u201d<\/p>\n
They\u2019re going out in style with their fourth New Year\u2019s Eve show at Crescent Ballroom downtown this Wednesday night. The big show will feature two stages and nine other Arizona bands: THE COLOR 8, Mega Ran, Spicy Mayo, Maeby, BIGBREAKFAST, Troubled Minds, The Cause of Depression, and New Misphoria.<\/p>\n
Wait, wait, wait, wait.<\/p>\n
Anyone who knows and loves Playboy Manbaby has to approach an announcement like that with a side eye, a dose of playful skepticism, and bracing for a punchline.<\/p>\n
After adding, \u201cWe\u2019re trying to figure out what we\u2019re going to do next so please be patient with us. We\u2019ll keep you informed as we figure things out,\u201d they explained a day later.<\/p>\n
The ska-punk garage rock combo \u2013 going on 15 years as a Phoenix band in 2026 \u2013 took to their favorite place to entertain (next to a stage anyway): their always colorful social media sites, to come clean.<\/p>\n
With tongue firmly planted in cheek, they\u2019ll be shapeshifting into The Playboy Manbaby Corporation. Of course, they\u2019ll still make music (they have a new album, \u201cViolence,\u201d due out Jan. 6) and they\u2019ll still bring high energy to live shows (their Corporations are People Toour kicks off Feb. 10 in Chicago).<\/p>\n
Basically it\u2019s still everything you\u2019ve always loved from Playboy Manbaby as their relentless satire takes corporate schilling \u2013 in the music business as well as in the United States as a whole \u2013 to even new frenzied levels.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s hard to say if the New Year\u2019s Eve bonanza at Crescent Ballroom will be a last blowout in their current form, a sneak peek at what\u2019s to come from them in 2026, a combination of both, or none of the above.<\/p>\n
