Another San Antonio craft brewer has tapped out.<\/p>\n

Decade-old Mad Pecker Brewing Co., 6025 Tezel Road, #122,\u00a0will permanently close down this Tuesday after hitting the reset button this summer, owner Jason Gonzales told the Express-News<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Gonzales originally shuttered<\/a> his Northwest San Antonio brewpub in March in response to sluggish sales. But, unwilling to walk away, he relaunched in June<\/a>. While business picked up after the return, it eventually went into another spiral, he explained. <\/p>\n

\u201cUltimately, with the end of the year coming up, it was the best decision just to stop it right here,\u201d Gonzales told the daily. \u201cI didn\u2019t want to put myself in another tax year and have to close in the middle of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

When Gonzales relaunched Mad Pecker, he increased his focus its food menu, which included pizzas, burgers and other pub grub. He even brought in consultants to help retool his revenue expectations, he told the Express-News. <\/p>\n

However, by Labor Day, it was apparent he couldn\u2019t salvage the operation. <\/p>\n

\u201cI feel better this time closing, because I know I really tried everything that I could,\u201d Gonzales told the daily.<\/p>\n

Craft brewers have skidded into tough times<\/a> over recent years due to rising ingredient prices and changing consumer tastes. <\/p>\n

San Antonio\u2019s Second Pitch Beer Co., Weathered Souls Brewing Co. and Busted Sandal Brewing Co. all shut down in 2024. This year, New Braunfels-based Faust Brewing Co. threw in the towel, and Freetail Brewing Co. stopped pouring at one of its two tap rooms.<\/p>\n

The only recent bright spot for local industry is Alamo Beer Co.\u2019s emergence from Chapter 11 bankruptcy<\/a> reorganization just before Christmas with a new Australia-based owner. <\/p>\n
