{"id":480246,"date":"2025-12-30T14:51:11","date_gmt":"2025-12-30T14:51:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/480246\/"},"modified":"2025-12-30T14:51:11","modified_gmt":"2025-12-30T14:51:11","slug":"dabo-swinney-fires-garrett-riley-in-clemson-staff-shake-up-after-dismal-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/480246\/","title":{"rendered":"Dabo Swinney fires Garrett Riley in Clemson staff shake up after dismal season"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Clemson\u2019s dismal season did not come without repercussions \u2013 just not for head coach Dabo Swinney.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The school announced that offensive coordinator Garrett Riley and longtime safeties coach Mickey Conn will not return next season.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Tigers finished 7-6 and missed out on the ACC Championship game and College Football Playoff despite high preseason expectations. Clemson began the year ranked No. 16. Its season ended with a <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/12\/27\/sports\/penn-state-wins-sloppy-pinstripe-bowl-over-clemson\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">disappointing 22-10 loss to Penn State<\/a> in the Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Riley, who joined Swinney\u2019s staff from TCU in 2023, paid for it with his job after the team\u2019s offense regressed and became a point of frustration for Swinney during the season. In 2024, Clemson\u2019s offense averaged 34.7 points (18th in the nation). I appreciate all of his efforts on behalf of our players and our program. Garrett is smart, he\u2019s got great work ethic and he\u2019s a great coach, but it just didn\u2019t work like we both wanted. Jeff Blake-Imagn Images<\/p>\n<p>Conn, who has been with the program for 10 years exits after safeties were a major point of concern for Clemson.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m just so appreciative of Mickey and the great contribution that he\u2019s made at Clemson over the last decade. I\u2019m thankful for his family as well.
