{"id":480785,"date":"2025-12-30T20:15:15","date_gmt":"2025-12-30T20:15:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/480785\/"},"modified":"2025-12-30T20:15:15","modified_gmt":"2025-12-30T20:15:15","slug":"artemis-2-moon-astronauts-rehearse-for-launch-day-photos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/480785\/","title":{"rendered":"Artemis 2 moon astronauts rehearse for launch day (photos)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"43bc024e-0e88-4646-b12b-54da193109de\">NASA&#8217;s first crewed mission toward the moon in more than half a century moved closer to liftoff recently, as the Artemis 2 astronauts completed a full launch day dress rehearsal in Florida.<\/p>\n<p>The four astronauts set to fly around the moon on the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/artemis-2-humans-moon-orbit\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/artemis-2-humans-moon-orbit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Artemis 2<\/a> mission participated in the launch day dress rehearsal on Dec. 20 at NASA&#8217;s <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/17705-nasa-kennedy-space-center.html\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/17705-nasa-kennedy-space-center.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kennedy Space Center<\/a> (KSC) in Florida. (Image credit: NASA\/Joel Kowsky)<\/p>\n<p id=\"b857df65-26a7-4cc2-a4ca-72419bf14ac2\">The action took place at the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) at KSC, where Orion and its <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/orion-service-module-artemis-2-nasa-delivery\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/orion-service-module-artemis-2-nasa-delivery\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">European Service Module<\/a> and the gigantic <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/33908-space-launch-system.html\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/33908-space-launch-system.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Space Launch System<\/a> (SLS) rocket are being prepared and tested ahead of rollout and launch.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-seasonal\" class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\" data-url=\"\" href=\"\" target=\"_blank\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"b857df65-26a7-4cc2-a4ca-72419bf14ac2-1\">Artemis 2 is currently slated to launch from KSC no earlier than Feb. 5, 2026. The mission will mark the first time astronauts will journey to the vicinity of the moon since <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/17287-apollo-17-last-moon-landing.html\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/17287-apollo-17-last-moon-landing.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Apollo 17<\/a> in December 1972.<\/p>\n<p id=\"0305eba0-f05f-4754-a170-1d8638988d8f\">A day before the rehearsal, <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/us-senate-confirms-jared-isaacman-as-new-nasa-administrator\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/us-senate-confirms-jared-isaacman-as-new-nasa-administrator\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">newly confirmed<\/a> NASA Administrator <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/private-spaceflight\/who-is-jared-isaacman-trumps-pick-for-nasa-chief\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/private-spaceflight\/who-is-jared-isaacman-trumps-pick-for-nasa-chief\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jared Isaacman<\/a> posted on the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NASAAdmin\/status\/2002118324441002383\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NASAAdmin\/status\/2002118324441002383\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\">social media platform X<\/a> that &#8220;Artemis 2 is America&#8217;s return to the moon, and the start of something much bigger.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The following mission, <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/artemis-3-moon-landing-mission\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/artemis-3-moon-landing-mission\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Artemis 3<\/a>, will attempt to land astronauts on the surface of the moon.
