British Wimbledon champion Henry Patten has been fined \u00a39,200 by Wimbledon after he allegedly directed verbal abuse at a member of staff.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The 29-year-old Brit is the reigning men’s doubles champion alongside his partner Harri Heliovaara at this year’s Championships<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Patten has topped the list of 12 fines that have been revealed by the All England Club for the first week of the tournament.<\/p>\n

His $12,500 [\u00a39.2k] fine has followed an off-site incident that occurred on June 29 where he is alleged to have ‘verbally abused staff’.<\/p>\n

In a statement via the Metro, he said<\/a>: “The next day, I spoke to the tournament referee and tournament director regarding this incident.<\/p>\n

“On the 2nd of July I received a letter informing me that I had been fined and on the same day I responded appealing the decision due to inaccuracies and procedural failures in the process.<\/p>\n

“Despite this decision being under appeal, I am disappointed that Wimbledon thought it appropriate to disclose this fine to the media without indicating my appeal which creates an unfair and inaccurate perception of the incident.<\/p>\n

“As this decision is subject to appeal, I have been advised not to speak about this in any detail at this point.<\/p>\n

“At this stage I will merely say that I do not believe that there has been a full or proper investigation, nor has Wimbledon acted reasonably or fairly with due process.<\/p>\n

“I am disappointed that as the defending male doubles champion that I am having to address this matter at this point rather than concentrating on playing tennis. <\/p>\n

“I will comment further once the appeal has been concluded.”<\/p>\n

Patten and Heliovaara won their first Grand Slam doubles title at Wimbledon in 2024.<\/p>\n

They went on to win this year’s Australian Open by beating Italian duo Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori.<\/p>\n

After wins against Dan Evans and Henry Searle, and Billy Harris and Marcus Willis, they reached this year’s third round.<\/p>\n

However, a walkover against Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Jordan Thompson confirmed a second consecutive quarter-final appearance.<\/p>\n

British pair Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool await on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Patten’s fine is not the only controversial incident from Wimbledon in 2025.<\/p>\n

Tournament chiefs were forced to apologise on Sunday after the new automatic line-calling technology failed<\/a>.<\/p>\n
