{"id":48184,"date":"2025-07-08T08:13:10","date_gmt":"2025-07-08T08:13:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/48184\/"},"modified":"2025-07-08T08:13:10","modified_gmt":"2025-07-08T08:13:10","slug":"british-star-slapped-with-largest-fine-at-wimbledon-this-year-for-alleged-verbal-abuse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/48184\/","title":{"rendered":"British star slapped with largest fine at Wimbledon this year for alleged verbal abuse"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>British Wimbledon champion Henry Patten has been fined \u00a39,200 by Wimbledon after he allegedly directed verbal abuse at a member of staff.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The 29-year-old Brit is the reigning men&#8217;s doubles champion alongside his partner Harri Heliovaara at <a href=\"https:\/\/talksport.com\/topic\/wimbledon\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">this year&#8217;s Championships<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Patten has been handed a fine in excess of \u00a39k\" height=\"701\" width=\"960\" data-credit=\"Getty\" data-img=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/l-henry-patten-great-britain-1008288078.jpg\" data-caption=\"Patten has been handed a fine in excess of \u00a39k\"   loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/l-henry-patten-great-britain-1008288078.jpg\" role=\"img\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>3<\/p>\n<p>Patten has been handed a fine in excess of \u00a39kCredit: Getty<\/p>\n<p>Patten has topped the list of 12 fines that have been revealed by the All England Club for the first week of the tournament.<\/p>\n<p>His $12,500 [\u00a39.2k] fine has followed an off-site incident that occurred on June 29 where he is alleged to have &#8216;verbally abused staff&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement via the Metro, <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/07\/07\/wimbledon-fine-12-players-british-tennis-star-punished-abusing-staff-23602133\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"he said (opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">he said<\/a>: &#8220;The next day, I spoke to the tournament referee and tournament director regarding this incident.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;On the 2nd of July I received a letter informing me that I had been fined and on the same day I responded appealing the decision due to inaccuracies and procedural failures in the process.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Despite this decision being under appeal, I am disappointed that Wimbledon thought it appropriate to disclose this fine to the media without indicating my appeal which creates an unfair and inaccurate perception of the incident.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As this decision is subject to appeal, I have been advised not to speak about this in any detail at this point.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;At this stage I will merely say that I do not believe that there has been a full or proper investigation, nor has Wimbledon acted reasonably or fairly with due process.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am disappointed that as the defending male doubles champion that I am having to address this matter at this point rather than concentrating on playing tennis. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I will comment further once the appeal has been concluded.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Patten and Heliovaara won their first Grand Slam doubles title at Wimbledon in 2024.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Wimbledon doubles champion Patten has appealed the decision\" height=\"605\" width=\"960\" data-credit=\"Getty\" data-img=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/henry-patten-great-britain-celebrates-1008288024.jpg\" data-caption=\"Wimbledon doubles champion Patten has appealed the decision\"   loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/henry-patten-great-britain-celebrates-1008288024.jpg\" role=\"img\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>3<\/p>\n<p>Wimbledon doubles champion Patten has appealed the decisionCredit: Getty<\/p>\n<p>Wimbledon 2025 fines<\/p>\n<p>Henry Patten &#8211;
