The Trump administration is freezing all childcare payments to Minnesota and demanding a comprehensive audit of the state\u2019s day care centers as a mushrooming billion-dollar fraud scandal engulfs the state\u2019s human services department.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have frozen all child care payments to the state of Minnesota<\/a>,\u201d Deputy Health and Human Services Secretary Jim O\u2019Neill wrote on X Tuesday afternoon, days after a viral video investigating alleged fraud at day care centers in the state drew national attention.<\/p>\n

Minnesota has received $185 million in childcare payments from the Trump administration this year, according to Alex Adams, assistant secretary of HHS\u2019 Administration for Children and Families.<\/p>\n

The \u201cfunds will be released only when states prove they are being spent legitimately,\u201d the HHS secretary said.<\/p>\n

O\u2019Neill said Minnesota has \u201cfunneled millions of taxpayer dollars to fraudulent daycares across Minnesota<\/a> over the past decade,\u201d and outlined three actions the department has taken in an attempt to cut off the flow of exploitable funds.<\/p>\n

\"QualityMillions of taxpayer dollars have gone to facilities like the \u201cQuality Learing Center\u201d which is at the center of fraud allegations. LP Media for NY Post<\/p>\n

The first action will impose the requirement for \u201ca receipt or photo evidence\u201d for any payments made to states through the US Administration for Children & Families (ACF).<\/p>\n

O\u2019Neill said he has \u201cdemanded\u201d Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz conduct a \u201ccomprehensive audit\u201d of the centers highlighted.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis includes attendance records, licenses, complaints, investigations<\/a>, and inspections,\u201d he writes.<\/p>\n

He specifically cited\u00a0YouTuber Nick Shirley\u2019s video published on Friday, in which he visited day care centers across Minneapolis receiving millions in state funds that appeared to be closed or out of operation.<\/p>\n

Third, HHS has launched a hotline and email address dedicated to reporting fraud at\u00a0childcare.gov<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s the latest on the Minnesota fraud scheme:<\/p>\n

\u201cWhether you are a parent, provider, or member of the general public, we want to hear from you,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have turned off the money spigot and we are finding the fraud.\u201d<\/p>\n
