{"id":4823,"date":"2025-06-22T09:03:22","date_gmt":"2025-06-22T09:03:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/4823\/"},"modified":"2025-06-22T09:03:22","modified_gmt":"2025-06-22T09:03:22","slug":"mets-crush-seven-homers-in-emphatic-rout-of-phillies-to-snap-skid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/4823\/","title":{"rendered":"Mets crush seven homers in emphatic rout of Phillies to snap skid"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PHILADELPHIA \u2014 That\u2019s one for each game of the now deceased losing streak.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Mets turned to a tried-and-tested method for success Saturday night, smashing seven home runs to snap a seven-game losing streak with an 11-4 victory over the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Brandon Nimmo and Juan Soto each homered twice and Francisco Lindor, Jared Young and Francisco Alvarez joined the parade with blasts on a night the Mets amassed 15 hits to finally exhale. <\/p>\n<p>All seven home runs occurred with the bases empty. It tied a major league record for solo homers in a game.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The top three in the lineup \u2014 Lindor, Nimmo and Soto \u2014 combined to drive in nine of the runs. <\/p>\n<p>Juan Soto celebrates after hitting a home run during the Mets-Phillies game on June 21, 2025.  AP<\/p>\n<p>The Mets, who moved into a tie with the Phillies atop the NL East, had scored only 16 runs during the losing streak.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was good to get one, but we have got a long way to go,\u201d manager Carlos Mendoza said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Nimmo was philosophical about the losing streak before it was snapped, telling The Post:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSometimes it\u2019s just your time to fail. It doesn\u2019t mean that you are OK with it. Aaron Judge, for example \u2014 amazing hitter, unbelievable job, AL MVP. But in the playoffs, it was a huge slump. Did he want to pick that time for it to happen? No. But it\u2019s baseball. It happens to everyone.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After the win, Nimmo was equally level-headed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re like, \u2018OK, great, it brought us a win, now we have got to go do it again tomorrow,\u2019 \u201d Nimmo said. \u201cEspecially when you put up runs like that, we had a long game. Now it\u2019s big on focusing on recovery and being ready for a dogfight [Sunday]. AP<\/p>\n<p>Griffin Canning rebounded from shaky innings early and got the team through the fifth. <\/p>\n<p>He allowed four runs, one of which was unearned, on six hits with four strikeouts and two walks. <\/p>\n<p>He departed after 94 pitches.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Nimmo homered in the first for the game\u2019s initial run, but the Phillies countered with two runs against Canning in the bottom of the inning. <\/p>\n<p>Nick Castellanos smashed an RBI double and Max Kepler\u2019s ground out brought in the other run. <\/p>\n<p>Canning allowed consecutive one-out singles to Kyle Schwarber and Alec Bohm, fueling the rally.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Francisco Lindor hits a home run during the Mets-Phillies game on June 21, 2025.  Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Otto Kemp scored on Canning\u2019s wild pitch in the second to extend the Phillies\u2019 lead to 3-1. <\/p>\n<p>Kemp doubled with one out.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Lindor homered leading off the third to begin a barrage in the inning. <\/p>\n<p>Nimmo blasted his second homer of the game and Soto cleared the right field fence, putting the Mets ahead 4-3. <\/p>\n<p>It gave the Mets back-to-back-to-back homers for the 10th time in franchise history. <\/p>\n<p>The Mets have won 28 straight games in which Lindor has homered, one short of the MLB record.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Griffin Canning pitches during the Mets-Phillies game on June 21, 2025.  Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wish I would have hit home runs in Atlanta,\u201d Lindor said, referring to the Mets\u2019 three straight losses to the Braves on this road trip.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Soto\u2019s second blast of the night \u2014 a shot that reached the mezzanine in right on a hanging breaking ball from Joe Ross \u2014 extended the Mets\u2019 lead to 5-3. <\/p>\n<p>It was the third multihomer game of the season for Soto.
