{"id":482693,"date":"2025-12-31T15:51:16","date_gmt":"2025-12-31T15:51:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/482693\/"},"modified":"2025-12-31T15:51:16","modified_gmt":"2025-12-31T15:51:16","slug":"biff-buzbys-to-shutter-and-serve-its-final-burgers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/482693\/","title":{"rendered":"Biff Buzby\u2019s to shutter and serve its final burgers\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After 25 years in Live Oak, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biffbuzbysburgers.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Biff Buzby\u2019s Burgers<\/a> is closing today, another casualty of a challenging economy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe tried everything to stay open but it just isn\u2019t possible anymore,\u201d said owner Francis Rogers III. \u201cThe rising cost of food, supplies and expenses and low attendance are the main reasons for, unfortunately, having to close.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The burger joint on the Northeast Side famously served The Red Baron Challenge \u2014 three pounds of hamburger meat, cheese and pickles between two buns, about a foot-high, with a side of fries.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Customers who could polish the plate received a free Biff\u2019s Cruisin T-Shirt and were placed on a winner\u2019s list of those \u201cwho defeated the Red Baron,\u201d according to the website. The cost to enter the challenge: $25.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was around for over 10 years and a lot of people completed it,\u201d Rogers said. \u201cWe lost count of how many.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The late Donna Humphreys and her husband, Ron, opened Biff\u2019s in 1999. The joint became known for specialty burgers, fried pickles, chicken fried steak, a buffalo chicken sandwich and beans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGrowing up, my parents served pork \u2018n beans alongside their grilled burgers,\u201d Rogers wrote on the restaurant\u2019s website. \u201cSo, Donna decided to serve homemade pinto beans along with her burgers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Donna passed away in 2019.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Her popular burger spot drew customers to its annual Cruisin\u2019 Classic Car Show, held every Friday from March through November. <\/p>\n<p>The restaurant\u2019s closing has generated hundreds of comments and shared memories on Biff Buzby\u2019s Facebook page. The burger spot posted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/profile.php?id=100063579280848\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a farewell message<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor 25 years, this place has been so much more than a burger joint. It has been a gathering place, a second home, a dream come true, and a true labor of love.
